Trooper has learned to prop himself up!

The bad news is Trooper suffered a compound fracture 😪 Miraculously the vet was able to set his leg and get him into a cast! The challenges he faces are fighting infection (he is on antibiotics) and healing properly as he is growing rapidly (as birds do!) #prayfortrooperduck

I turned to a local farm page on Facebook and asked if anyone could help this little guy. A very kind woman responded and offered to take him to her vet and help him out the best she could. If he can pull through, he will return to our farm!

This is Trooper. My husband found him hours after he hatched half way deep in mud and inches from death. He had been attacked by another duck and left for dead. He was not moving, limp-legged, and covered in hundreds of fly eggs. He let out a single peep...

We set up a small brooder with a heat lamp, food, and water and let him rest. He looked very weak and I wasn't sure he would make it through the night. But by the late evening, he was peeping up a storm and trying to hop out of the brooder!
