What Jai Lucas has done in his 1st year at Miami is REMARKABLE.
The Hurricanes went 7-24 a season ago.
Miami just won its 26th game of the year in the NCAA Tournament.
That 19-win improvement ties the BIGGEST win total turnaround in D-I men’s college hoops history.
Let's play out this scenario⬇️⬇️:
Team A beat Team B.
Team A and Team B had 4 common opponents, and Team A outplayed Team B against 3 out of 4.✅
Team A went 4-0 against ranked opponents.✅
Team B went 2-2 against ranked opponents.❌
Their SOS is nearly identical🟰🟰
Who deserves to get in?
They both finished 10-2 on the season.✅✅
If your answer is Team B because Team A lost to “unranked” opponents that were top-35, bowl-eligible-caliber teams, then that is a generational moving of the goalposts.
You are setting a new criterion that is not even part of the criteria used by the CFP, and wasn’t applied to anyone last year, and wasn’t applied this year either (Bama lost to unranked and bowl-ineligible FSU).
Team A is Miami
Team B is Notre Dame
Where is the incentive to play big time out of conference games if winning the head to head games hurt you outright? Is the @CFBPlayoff ready to set that precedent?
Miami 2024
10-2, 3 wins by 7 points or fewer
No. 2 offense with No. 1 pick in draft
Bad defense
No Conference title game
No playoff (and shouldn’t have been in)
Oklahoma 2025
10-2, 4 wins by 7 or fewer
No. 4 defense
Bad offense
No Conference title game
In playoff?
"Not only does Miami have head to head. Ok, let's go to common opponents... Miami wins that, too!"
@colincowherd and @jasonrmcintyre debate if Miami deserves to be ranked ahead of Notre Dame by the CFP committee
If the final playoff spot comes down to Notre Dame vs Miami, and it likely will, Miami has to be the choice. Two 10-2 teams that played even schedules. The tiebreaker is the Miami head to head win over Notre Dame.
@JackRFulton@CFBKings Those same exact rating systems had ND beating Miami on August 31st, and they were wrong. Football isn't played in a basement between laptops my man, it's played on a field between white lines, and for what it's worth Miami beat ND IN AN ACTUAL REAL GAME ON A FIELD.
