Happy to share that the KidsRights Index 2022, that I co-authored with Prof. Karin Arts is now out. Results show that no significant progress has been made in last ten years for fulling children’s rights. #childrensrights#childindex#SDG#children
Today I used Bing for the first time (incognito) to check the AI hype. It looks like Microsoft still has to catch up with 2016 discussions on algorithmic bias, algorithmic amplification, racism, etc.

Ugh @Google will "recalibrate" the level of risk it is willing to take when releasing AI tools, due to competitive pressure from @OpenAI. This is the kind of market-driven arms race we do NOT need when it comes to tech that could drastically reshape society, for better and worse.
Complex layers of platformization that show it’s depth and growth. In my PhD project I take a specific look into how this affects the education sector. The rights based framework definitely adds to the branches of this complexity. #platform#EdTech
This graphic from @philnichols (and @anterobot) is so helpful in calling attention to the complex layers introduced by platformization. The ecological metaphor really resonates.

So far, I've read 707 articles for my Ph.D. (#privacy, #dataprotection law, #fairness at @TAU_LAW). Below are some of the articles that have most influenced my research: (and they are free)

There is an Apple Classrooms of Tomorrow, whitepaper document from 2008 that enlists strategies for technology integration in schools for learning and communication. How are these classrooms doing today? @Apple#educationandtechnology#EdTech#Techclassrooms
"For over 6 years, people were often wrongly labeled as fraudsters, with dire consequences." "Some victims committed suicide. More than a thousand children were taken into foster care." #AI#AIEthics https://t.co/klrSdLj5vr
This would remain the most perplexing case of child protection for me. Maybe a begin to algorithmic violence on many other aspects of children’s lives. #childprotection#dutchchildrights
“Students who can self-regulate their learning are well equipped to navigate the faster pace of life in the age of AI.”

I wrote an article for Digital Journalism (@djeditorialteam). It's on news recommenders and news diversity, and the role of democratic theory in this debate. I try to gently suggest we should draw on a wider set of theories.
