Imagine if this World Cup was happening in America before social media.
Like imagine @FreddyLA7 going back to Germany and explaining to his friends and family that he saw Messi score a goal shortly after the Americans released a trained Eagle to fly around a college stadium with 90,000 people in it.
Or hearing @elsathora describe the “ranch sauce” to her circle of people.
I’m not a soccer guy at all, but I’m 100% loving the timeline right now with people genuinely enjoying the real American Experience for the first time.
I remember Mom and Dad loading us up, then heading out to wherever we were camping that weekend. Once we got there, that old 1970 Sears canvas tent camper came to life. Watching them set it up was part of the whole experience, unfolding it, pulling that thick canvas tight, making something solid out of what looked like almost nothing.
Looking back, it wasn't just about getting away, it was about building something together, right there at the campsite. Piece by piece, just like those memories. 💛
I asked Vernon Maxwell how Hakeem Olajuwon would fare vs. Victor Wembanyama.
“[Wembanyama] wouldn’t be able to guard him. Dream would be falling away from all that 7’4” shit. He wouldn’t be able to guard Dream, Dream just had too much.”
“It would have been a massacre.”
The whole 82-0 phenomenon reinforces that whole bit about how the only thing a bunch of dudes need in order to have a good time is to sit around announcing the names of a bunch of old athletes.
