JERSEY: Ghislaine Maxwell and Jeffrey Epstein used offshore companies to build & conceal their wealth—while trafficking children. Now, an offshore leak from island of Jersey exposes the finances of her family. Big story I just did w/@MiamiHerald & @OCCRP https://t.co/Opun8uDmHK
Fourteen of the 27 known corporate donors to President Trump’s White House ballroom project have won new or expanded federal contracts worth more than $50 billion during the past six months, according to a report.

401(k) hardship withdrawals are rare, but they spike when Americans’ saving and income don’t cover their expenses.
Since 2020, Vanguard data shows they have more than tripled.
My @Morning_Joe Chart.
How very very sad.
Marjane was a true artist and advocate for Iranian women and freedom.
She disrupted literature with her wildly successful autobiographical graphic novel, Persepolis.
AFP reports she died of sadness a year after losing her husband, the love of her life.
RIP
As businesses ramp up spending on AI tools like Claude, they’re facing so-called “AI sticker shock” — ballooning costs with little productivity gain to show for it.
While strong enterprise adoption has been the basis for Anthropic’s revenue growth, companies cutting back on AI spending could slow its roll.

Question: Are we all just destined to think we understand reality after the first 20-30 years of our lives only to watch what we believed to be true descend into madness & incomprehension? I am starting to wonder if this is how everyone feels at a certain age and it's just normal
Pelley's public statements now are simply to set the record straight, which any journalist should do, particularly if they are being lied about. 60 Minutes audiences deserve a full accounting of what's happening (which is why I am posting the statement).
#journalismisnotacrime
Scott Pelley's objections at the staff meeting (where there would be other witnesses) over private meetings with 60 Minutes leadership (which they preferred, and he did not) was wise, especially if he already believed his words and events would be misrepresented
Pelley isn't just defending 60 Minutes and journalism with integrity but, ultimately, defending the right of viewers, readers and audiences to gain access to the facts and the truth. The No. 1 rule of journalism: Defend your audience. Without that, there's nothing.
If computing power brings about technological advances without human input, and enough of the pay-off is reinvested in building still more powerful machines, wealth could accumulate at unprecedented speed https://t.co/JV0XkFVpXh
America has a housing crisis of historic proportions & not one member of the Trump family (or Kushner dynasty) known for their gargantuan real-estate deals, have lifted a finger to tackle it. All that expertise, but nothing. Just ballrooms, arches, resorts & more gobs of Saudi $
@CADChick Agree...you've got to first accept the reality before you can address it, or anything you do to respond to it will be ineffective. But few are good at facing things. And now it's far easier than ever before to retreat into alternative realities
The growing wealth gap doesn't care if young adults can't earn or buy homes or start families; the AI boom doesn't care about gutting jobs or energy costs or climate change; and our leaders don't do anything about it because they are too cozy with the billionaires perpetuating it
For The Guardian, I reported on how economic instability, skyrocketing costs of basic needs, and the job market are making it harder for young people to enter adulthood: "It’s never enough." https://t.co/ZMTyElwZQo
@CADChick So true. Whenever i write a story (journalism, nonfiction, etc) one of the biggest obstacles is getting past a reader's disbelief. Any surreal story requires this. In some ways, fiction is better for sharing uncomfortable truths, because readers come in ready to suspend disbelief
The first time i felt this way was in NY during Sept 11 attacks (and their life-changing aftermath). But now i've seen it enough the feeling is familiar, so i just have to conclude it's normal and every human experiences this (and re-experiences this)
I follow with concern the war in #Ukraine, which is experiencing a sharp intensification in these days. I wish to express my closeness to all those suffering due to recent attacks carried out even against civilians. War does not solve problems but worsens them. It does not create security but multiplies suffering and hatred. Where missiles and drones fall, hopes also fall; homes and places of prayer are destroyed, and innocent lives are broken. I entrust all peoples wounded by war to the protection of the Virgin Mary, Queen of #Peace.
