Let’s talk about why this only makes sense if you’re not very bright.
Caffeine will never grow your muscle. You can sit around and drink coffee all day and your biceps won’t care.
But, if you slam 500mg caffeine before your workout, guess what? You’re going to train harder.
The caffeine facilitates more gains by making it easier to train in such a way that your muscles grow.
Same concept for the pump, mind-muscle connection, and many other contributors.
Even if they didn’t directly cause more growth, they will help you to place more tension on the target muscle. Which means for all you science guys out there, more mechanical tension in the target muscle and less fatigue.
So saying it doesn’t matter just means you can’t think beyond the first order, AND you just told that to everybody.
Embarrassing.
So now that we know it matters, how do you improve your mind-muscle connection, and thus, your gains?
1. Different resistance profiles
Train movements that are hardest in the contracted position, movements that are hardest in the stretched position, etc…
2. Practice your lifts.
Use some movements to get a huge squeeze, use some movements to really hone in on the huge stretch. Practice the parts you struggle with. You can even do some sets of the same exercise with different weights, one set accentuating the stretch, and one accentuating the squeeze.
3. Slow things down if needed
The people that used to call 5 “meh” reps on a machine chest press ego lifting, now call it “science-based”
It’s okay to lighten the weight, go slower, and focus on stretching and squeezing the actual muscle you’re training. I promise you’re not leaving any gains in the table doing so.
4. Hydration
Hydrated muscles are easier to feel. Hydrated muscles perform better. Drink tons of water, tons of electrolytes, and don’t forget your creatine.
5. Pump products.

Combo that with some glycerol and you’re virtually maxed out.
