UPDATE: Jabob Smith is still in the ICU after an unprovoked coworker attack.

He asked his mother, "Why did he do this to me?"

Heartbreaking.

"He's got 2nd degree burns over 22% of his body. They said he was in excruciating pain yesterday," the victim's mother said.

They are not sure how long he will be in the ICU, as the pain meds he is being administered require doctor monitoring.

He will likely require skin graft surgery.

Today, I decided to leave my church.

I can't sit through another political sermon where the phrase "White Supremacy" is used again and again, and I'm told I'm not doing enough for the LGBTQ+++ crowd.

I want a church that has more crucifixes than rainbow flags and whose bishop doesn't send videos to play about how he protests at whatever the church's politics-du-jour is.

And thus, I am no longer a member of the United Methodist Church.

The Chicago Bears have been a Chicago institution since 1921. They survived the Great Depression, World War II, and the 2008 financial crisis.

But they couldn’t survive modern Illinois under one-party Democratic rule.

After years of bureaucratic delays, aggressive tax reassessments on undeveloped land, and politicians treating the team like an enemy instead of an asset, the Bears decided moving next door to Republican-led Indiana was the smarter play.

They were ready to invest $2 billion of private money into a new stadium in Illinois.

Instead, they’re now renting in Indiana.

This is what happens when leaders prioritize punishing “billionaires” and scoring political points over keeping major employers and cultural icons in the state.

Illinois lost the team, the jobs, the development, and tens of millions in annual tax revenue. Indiana gained it all.

When your governance makes leaving a better deal than staying, even for a historic franchise, it’s time to admit the model is broken.
