I’ve been seeing a lot of the usual selective outrage lately and some opinions from online moralists police… so let’s talk facts for a second.

Chris Brown’s domestic violence incident with Rihanna happened in 2009. He pleaded guilty. And yet, years (and multiple other controversies) later, a long list of popular and big-name artists—both male and female have still happily collaborated with him on official tracks, albums, and projects.

Here’s a non-exhaustive list of major ones post-2009:

Male artists:
• Lil Wayne (multiple times, including “Look at Me Now” and “Loyal”)
• Justin Bieber (“Next to You,” “Don’t Check on Me”)
• Usher (“New Flame,” “Party”)
• Drake (“No Guidance” – a massive hit after their feud)
• Tyga (entire collaborative projects like Fan of a Fan)
• Young Thug (Slime & B / “Go Crazy”)
• Kendrick Lamar (“Autumn Leaves”)
• Davido, Wizkid, Future, Rick Ross, Gunna, and more

Female artists:
• Nicki Minaj (repeated collabs: “Right By My Side,” “Love More,” “Only,” “Wobble Up,” and even the 2024 “FTCU” remix)
• Rihanna herself (post-incident tracks like “Birthday Cake” remix and “Nobody’s Business”)

The music industry kept working with him, platforms kept promoting the songs, and many of these artists still do features or joint projects.

Meanwhile, some of the same people lose their minds over BTS existing and breathing. Holding K-pop idols to a standard of absolute moral oversight while mainstream Western industry icons including major female empowerment advocates and global rappers freely work with him creates an unfair double standard.
