"But where is the growth?"
Some people ask this no matter what the numbers say. They will agree one quarter was good, or that a sector or two did well, and then ask it again.
So here is a decade.
- Banks had more than 11% of their loans going bad. Now it is under 2%.
- India had 2.8 GW of solar power. It now has more than 164.
- 17% of village homes had a tap. Now more than 80% do.
- There were 74 airports. There are now 165.
- In 2014-15, about a quarter of the phones sold in India were made in India. Now it is 99.2%.
The World Bank says extreme poverty fell from 27.1% to 5.3% between 2011-12 and 2022-23. That is 269 million people.
The economy grew 7.8% in the June quarter. The RBI had expected 7.
Nobody says the work is finished. But if none of this counts as growth, no answer ever will.
@profvidhu argues that most economies are dependent on one or two sectors, while India has multiple going together.
Read the piece below to gauge what that actually looks like on the ground.

Nirmala Sitharaman told the West yesterday in US: Keep your ALPHABET SOUP 🤣
> "India is not a K-shaped exhibit. Growth is holding at 7% plus."
Q1 prints today at 7.8%.
She said it in the room. The numbers proved her right today❤️
The same people who spent years MEMEING her for taxes.
Same taxes this country has carried for decades.
> Now cannot digest a cut on the one hand & a print on the other.
The troll army does not debate the GDP release. It just cannot stand the graph.
Call her what you want. The forecast stood up.
BEST Finance Minister since Independence?👀
This middle class madam you see here pulling her own luggage, always dressed humbly, with a no-nonsense attitude?
She needs a big applause for what India has pulled with a 7.8% growth during one of the toughest global economic climate year.
She has delivered consistent growth for India, maneuvering India through multiple crises, while keeping inflation low and reducing deficit.
She just doesn't get enough credit for what she has done. In fact, she gets hate and mockery mostly. I think just because she's a woman.
> She has cleared 10 lakh crore NPA from banks
> Delivered 7.6%+ avg GDP growth for past six years (after Covid, Ukraine war, Gulf war and trade war with USA)
> And cut income tax up to 13 lakhs and indirect tax to 9% at its lowest
> Done so many things for India better than all those Oxford, Cambridge economists before
But most people are being constantly blackpilled about the economy by foreign adversarial and political propaganda.
They keep parroting "high tax" "high inflation" as if everything was lower before. But the truth is, they were much higher and she has brought all down (taxes, deficit, NPAs, and inflation) while keeping growth good.
Even under this post we will find people complaining because that's how powerful the propaganda is. It is easy to blackpill and make people feel miserable when actually things are better now than before in so many ways.
Estimated growth of real GDP in Q1 of FY 2026–27 is 7.8%.
Nominal GDP in Q1 of FY 2026–27 is estimated to have grown by 10.3%, while Real GVA has recorded growth of 8.2%.
The credit for this strong performance goes to the people of India and their hard work.
Reforms undertaken by the NDA Government, together with an agile management of the economy, are bearing results.
The NDA Government, led by PM Shri @narendramodi, remains committed to further expanding economic opportunities for all our citizens.

A growth rate of 7.8 per cent in a quarter when Hormuz was shut, 50% of our LPG supplies were hit, and crude was a $120/barrel headache. Sure, Q2 may tell its own tale, but for now, Q1 has not been the disaster many thought (or wished) it would be. The world remains a mess.
My hypothesis: Early humans who were migrating out via India were trapped in the Himalayas of present North East India during ice age.
The extreme cold and lack of sun made their skin very pale (to help make more vit-d), made their eyes smaller (to see well during snow storms), noses and face flatter (to reduce loss of body heat), less dense eyebrows (to prevent snow from sticking) etc.
These are classic Asian facial features. Then, once ice age was over, they migrated out to Asia populating China, Korea, and as far as Japan. So my hypothesis is East Asians originated in India. Not the other way around it is said that "North East Indians share genetics with East Asians."
It is East Asians who carry genetics of North East Indians. Migration of humans happened east ward from India, not into India. And genetic diversity of North East India is much higher than say China, Japan, or Korea. Just like Africa's genetic variation is very high compared to Arabia or Europe.
Bajrang Dal raided a hotel in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, and found that a prostitution racket leader, a Muslim man, had been staying under the name of 'Rahul'.
A minor 'Jatav' girl was also rescued. She claimed she was gang-raped by 5 Muslim men just a day ago.
A pile of synthetic drugs was also found at the scene. Hotel staff equally complicit, claims Bajrang Dal.
Bollywood Bimbo strikes again.
Twinkle Khanna @mrsfunnybones says Mughals invented Kofta, Korma and Kabab so we have no right to eat them.
Someone tell this 20 IQ Moron. Koftas and Kormas are ancient Persian dishes that existed BEFORE Islam.
Mughals were beggars who lived in tents before coming to India.
Vast majority of Chagatai Turks/Mughals used to eat insects and locusts in their native homeland before coming to India.

Remember the Pulwama attack in 2019, in which 40 soldiers were killed.
Insha Jan also known as Insha Tariq, is accused of allegedly providing food, shelter, and other logistical support to terrorists. She was involved in the terrorist conspiracy connected to the Pulwama attack.
7 years after the Pulwama attack, Insha Jan filed a bail petition.
The Special NIA Court in Jammu has now rejected her bail petition.
A needless and avoidable spurious debate on India’s public debt has been triggered by TV studio calisthenics.
Let’s be calm and dispassionate and get the fundas right. Here:
A ₹201 lakh crore debt stock by itself tells you almost nothing about sustainability. What matters is debt/GDP, the primary deficit, the interest-growth differential, currency denomination, maturity profile and the direction of the debt ratio.
The claim that fiscal trajectory since Covid is therefore worsening is simply false.
The Centre’s debt ratio has been declining from its pandemic peak. For FY27, the Government budgets the fiscal deficit at 4.3% of GDP and Central debt at about 55.6%, while effective capex is 4.4% of GDP. The IMF likewise projects the debt ratio declining over the medium term and assesses sovereign-stress risk as moderate, not as an approaching debt crisis.
And yes, ₹14.04 lakh crore of interest against ₹35.33 lakh crore of revenue receipts is roughly 40%. An interest/revenue ratio is a measure of fiscal space, not a standalone test of insolvency. In fact many of the economists have accused Modi Govt of being fiscally too conservative and prescribe borrowing more.
2) What States do with their finances, Centre has no control over it. It’s their call.
For FY26, States budgeted:
• Gross fiscal deficit: 3.3% of GDP
• Revenue deficit: just 0.2% of GDP
• Capital expenditure: 3.2% of GDP, up from 2.7%
• RBI explicitly says States continued to improve expenditure quality and sustained their thrust on capital expenditure.
And even if ₹2 lakh crore is being spent on women-oriented transfers, that does not prove that ₹2 lakh crore of borrowing financed those transfers. Government budgets are fungible. To establish the charge, examine each State’s revenue balance, borrowing, capex and debt sustainability.
Name the fiscally reckless states and criticise them. There are several legitimate candidates.
But aggregate first and insinuate later is not serious fiscal analysis.
3) “India is not America. We don’t have the reserve currency.”
Nobody needs India to be America for rupee sovereign debt to be sustainable.
India’s debt structure is actually one reason its high debt ratio is less dangerous than the headline suggests: it is overwhelmingly domestic, rupee-denominated, predominantly fixed-rate and long-duration.
The Economic Survey notes that the weighted average maturity of outstanding dated securities had risen to 13.66 years, only about 27% matures within five years, and floating-rate debt was only around 4.1%.
The IMF explicitly says India’s risks from elevated debt are mitigated by domestic financing, long duration and a favourable interest-growth differential.
That doesn’t make the debt harmless. It does mean the “India isn’t America” line is a rhetorical flourish rather than a debt-sustainability argument.
4) “If growth slows, higher rates, crowding out and a fiscal vise follow.”
Of course slower growth makes debt dynamics worse.
That’s not a prediction. That’s an adverse scenario.
“If growth falls and financing conditions deteriorate, heavily indebted governments will have less fiscal space” is true of virtually every sovereign on Earth.
The relevant question is how exposed India is to that shock.
Long-duration, fixed-rate, overwhelmingly domestic debt means higher market rates do not instantly reprice the entire debt stock. That is precisely why maturity structure matters.
And “crowding out” isn’t mechanically proportional to government borrowing either. Public infrastructure capex can crowd in private investment by increasing expected returns and reducing logistics costs.
None of this means borrowing is free. It means you cannot jump from:
“A slowdown would make things harder”
to:
“therefore today’s debt position is unsustainable.”
Those are two different propositions.
5) “Praise good policies and criticise bad ones.”
Agree completely.
Then apply that principle consistently.
Won’t DTP 🙂
Anand ji;
Your verbatim quote in English:
“How can all of us sleep even at night thinking that India has a public debt of ₹270 lakh crore? How are you sleeping? The country is being looted for votes.”
The essence of your argument is that: “India has a public debt problem.” This is not conceptually correct.
You are aware that emerging economies do borrow for development needs. Economies having a wider public base than India also carry public debt. Public debt is inherently neutral. Debt for infrastructure is not bad debt. The composition of debt defines the macroeconomic stability of any economy. This is why there is a broad consensus to look at the debt-to-GDP ratio to honestly conclude the health of an economy.
Another important factor is the composition of India’s debt. India’s government debt is overwhelmingly rupee-denominated, which significantly limits its exposure to exchange-rate risks associated with foreign-currency debt.
This is where India is not just performing well; it is a shining spot and is also on a declining debt-to-GDP path.
The people of India can sleep well. India’s macroeconomic indicators are strong and healthy.
Further data:
India’s fiscal story is steadily improving.
The COVID shock pushed Central Government debt-to-GDP to 61.4% in 2020-21. Since then, the debt burden has been brought down:
2020-21: 61.4%
2021-22: 58.8%
2022-23: 57.9%
2023-24: 58.1%
2024-25: 57.1%
2025-26 RE: 56.1%
2026-27 BE: 55.6%
And this decline is happening while the size of India’s economy and the government’s revenue capacity have expanded substantially.
Nominal GDP
2013-14: ~₹113 lakh crore
2026-27: ~₹393 lakh crore
Nearly 3.5× larger
Income-tax returns filed
FY 2013-14: ~3.8 crore
FY 2024-25: ~9.2 crore
More than 2.4×
Gross tax revenue
2013-14: ~₹11.3 lakh crore
2026-27 BE: ~₹44.0 lakh crore
Nearly 4×
And look at overall government debt relative to GDP among these major economies:
India: 83.4%
China: 106.9%
France: 118.4%
United States: 125.8%
Japan: 204.4%
Among these five economies, India has the lowest government debt-to-GDP ratio.
So, the broader picture is encouraging: India’s economy is much larger, the tax base has expanded, tax revenues have multiplied, and the Centre’s debt burden is moving down from its COVID-era peak.
A larger economy and stronger revenue base make it easier to manage debt while continuing to invest in infrastructure and development.
Kyrgyzstan is a secular country like India.
90% population of Kyrgyzstan is Sunni Muslim..
The Kyrgyzstan govt has banned the niqab and burqa in public spaces.
A Women wearing a niqab or burqa in public face a fine of 20,000 som (about $230).
If Modi govt notifies similar rule in India, your ass would be on fire and you would be jumping insanely..
