Aster 0.7.0
You can talk to it now. Press ctrl+r in the terminal or tap the mic in the desktop app, and what you say lands in the message box.
It needs an @ElevenLabs or @OpenAI key, and the mic works on macOS and Windows. More coming.

Say hello to Aster ✳
An open-source coding agent you run yourself, with the model you choose. It reads your code, makes the edit, runs the tests, and reviews your changes by trying to prove itself wrong.

@try_aster can now read documents.
anydoc (Firecrawl’s Rust doc-to-markdown converter) is live:
PDF, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, EPUB, RTF & more convert cleanly in read_file (with magic-byte sniffing)
Docs are no longer a black box.
@try_aster now supports Agent Plugins, the portable plugin standard adopted by @vercel_dev, @kirodotdev, @cursor_ai, @github, @Microsoft, and @OpenAI.
One folder, any client. A plugin published for ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor, Copilot, Kiro, or VS Code installs into Aster unchanged.
$ aster plugins add owner/repo
The portable format only carries Skills and MCP servers.
Everything else Aster gives you is native: 18 built-in skills, sub-agents, project memory, and a policy sandbox around every command.

Aster has a YOLO mode.
/yolo drops every guardrail. Any path, full network,
no confirmations. The screen burns down in a shockwave,
the whole UI turns red, and it stays red until you
leave.
You will not forget which mode you are in.
@try_aster Started out as a CodeReview agent but now its already a harness for agents working in a codebase.
It gives agents everything they need to work effectively: the model you choose, the right context, local retrieval, durable memory, skills, agent definitions, and controlled access to tools.
Aster is model-agnostic, supporting any OpenAI-compatible provider, and self-hostable without requiring a vector database or hosted control plane.
