Matthew Shepard died today 26 years ago. As we remember Matt, I encourage you to consider how generalizations of rurality as incompatible with queerness harms LGBTQ people and invite you to think about the ways LGBTQ rural folks resist harms and build community in rural spaces.
It’s actually fine to select biased samples in qual research! Selection should be driven by theory and analysis usually focuses on connections between the micro (behavior, attitudes, etc) and macro (structure).
Ready to incorporate this into my qual class next spring!
I’ve always been an advocate for a focus on wellness for qual researchers, especially those who work in sensitive topic areas. 👏🏼
