The Constitution was not “made for a Christian society.”
It was deliberately designed to create a secular government, breaking with centuries of governments that intertwined religious and political authority.
No religious test for office. Religious freedom for everyone.
Seven months into a war: the Army Secretary is gone, the Navy is run by an acting secretary, half our ambassador posts are vacant, generals are resigning, commanders are warning the war is unsustainable, and sailors are breaking under the strain.
If this were Russia, we’d be laughing at them.
Shame on everyone who gave this psycho a platform, and on everyone who applauded this disgusting rhetoric.
There is a clear line between legitimate criticism of Islam and Islamist ideology and rhetoric that is hateful, disgusting, and outright Islamophobic.
@NickRich718@RealSarahIdan Majority of the time when there are instances of antisemitism it’s people falling into antisemitic tropes. Never really any genuine hatred for Jews or Judaism.
@NickRich718@RealSarahIdan It really can’t, when you are going to a pro Palestine rally, you never really hear “I hate Jews Judaism doesn’t belong here” you hear sentiments against Zionism followed by people making clear they are not talking about Judaism or Jews.—-
"Eggs expensive under Biden" was a story for six months. "Trump made everything expensive on purpose" is apparently just a Trump personality quirk we're all supposed to get used to.
Shapiro was fine with Trump wearing a kippah out of respect but not with Hochul donning a hijab out of respect. He wants people to be Islamophobic but not antisemitic and it’s just not sustainable and so dangerous for Jewish communities.
@cpscott16 At most we’ve dismantled a lot of the most capable terror group’s capabilities for a time but like you said look in parts of Africa, Mali for example is in a deep power struggle with JNIM, and if you look at Sudan the RSF may not be from the ME but it’s supported by the UAE.
"Just."
2008: it's just Georgia.
2014: it's just Crimea.
2015: just freeze the lines.
2022: he just wants the Donbas.
2026: just give him Donetsk.
The most expensive word in European history. Every time the West says "just," Moscow hears "next."
He is speaking at the ‘Jewish American Summit’ and getting applause for saying ‘I don’t want Muslims in America.’
I’m trying to imagine the reaction from our media and politicians if a speaker at a ‘Muslim American Summit’ said, to loud applause, ‘I don’t want Jews in America.’
@mattxiv I’m trying to figure out what’s racist or Islamophobic about it. AES has a series of controversial tweets surrounding 9/11 (when out of context, which the article provides) and AES has campaigned with and refused to condemn Hasan Piker, someone who supports terrorism loudly.
@ProgressiveVic And refuses to condemn them outside of “my campaign isn’t about a California streamer”, and this article is just talking about this. How is this racist or Islamophobic?
@ProgressiveVic Maybe I’m just missing this, what is racist or Islamophobic about this? AES has had a series of past tweets surrounding 9/11 that are controversial especially out of context but are contextualized in the article, he has campaigned with someone who supports terrorism—-
@mehdirhasan@fshakir@DavidJUrban So is your answer to the medias double standard on political extremism to invite and accept left wing extremism in the form of people like Hasan piker? Just because the media is more harsh on these extremist from our side we just should defend them?
Every week Israeli settlers march through the Old City of Hebron, accompanied by the army, harassing Palestinians on their way. Sometimes these marches turn into full-scale pogroms, with settlers burning Palestinian businesses and attacking people with impunity.
Yesterday was on the less violent side, but the soldiers still harassed the locals and the journalists, and closed down Palestinian stores.
