If it’s true, as the fine WSJ article reports, that Mark Carney is proposing that Canada becomes an associate member of the EU, then he must call an election. He has no mandate for this. The Conservatives will and should oppose it, preferring closer US ties. Voters must decide.

In 1982, Titanic survivor Ruth Becker was giving a speech. She explained how she watched the massive ship snap completely in half before it sank.

Mid-sentence, an "expert" literally snatched the microphone out of her hand. He publicly humiliated her, telling the crowd she was "confused" and that the ship sank in one piece.

For 70 years, that was the official history. Exactly 3 years later, they found the wreck on the ocean floor.

It was broken clean in two. Ruth was right all along.

After heavy flooding hit parts of Nepal, rescue teams were searching through flooded roads and riverbanks, looking for anyone still trapped by the strong current.

That’s when one volunteer noticed something moving through the water. It was a wild elephant fighting against the current, moving slowly but firmly through the flood.

A few feet ahead, a red panda was struggling in the water, too small to fight the pull on its own. The elephant reached it just in time, gently lifted it with its trunk, and helped place the soaked red panda onto its back before walking toward higher ground

The volunteer said the moment stayed with him because the elephant did the same thing rescuers were trying to do that day. It reached out to help another life in danger.

He said the saddest and most beautiful part of disasters is that everyone comes together, sometimes even the animals.
