@fyng71667388@HugoOutsdtheBox@Tendar@theskibeagle Ukraine didn't "bite" or invade Russia! The Russian dog was the one that did the biting.
Russia seems to think that neighbouring countries are Russian territory
@makua_sekh86556@NOELreports The spee the ruSSki's are advancing, we will be dead of old age before they get anywhere- all that blood and treasure spent for no useful purpose?!? As for nuclear threats, notice that MADvedev started the latest round, just like always. He seems to forget that we have nukes too!
@Saskiaaa_____@ukhomeoffice Free and safe....Hmm Navalny, Nemtsov, assorted window and tea loving oligarchs, anyone who doesn't do exactly as they're told by Godfather Putin basically, would beg to differ. You don't know the meaning of "free" you are so brainwashed
@sloppyrl@DrewDrewski86@secretsqrl123@WarMonitor3 I do sympathise with your concerns. However, I think US is just storing up future problems for itself in taking what APPEARS to be the easiest short term path.
As Churchill said, if you have the choice between war or dishonour and you choose dishonour, you will get war anyway
@sloppyrl@DrewDrewski86@secretsqrl123@WarMonitor3 Appeasement is an illusionary solution. It is not real and it won't last.
Either we need to outlast Ru until it gives up (as it did in Afghanistan in 1989) due to crippling costs of war.
Or, we must have concrete and binding security guarantees to deter future aggression.
@sloppyrl@DrewDrewski86@secretsqrl123@WarMonitor3 The holocaust was not what led to WW2. Nobody declared war on Germany over that.
It was the imperialist invasion of other countries, specifically the tearing up of the aforementioned Munich Agreement by invading ANOTHER sovereign country, Poland. Peace by appeasement had failed
@sloppyrl@DrewDrewski86@secretsqrl123@WarMonitor3 Hitler had imperialist ambitions and annexed other sovereign nations on flimsy pretexts, eventually leading to a world war. Putin is doing exactly the same, so please explain why you think Putin and Hitler are so different.
If there are no guarantees, then its not peace at all
@sloppyrl@DrewDrewski86@secretsqrl123@WarMonitor3 With respect, that's like being impressed with Chamberlain appeasing Hitler because if he gets Czech land he will "end the war".
What is there, in Trump's proposals, to stop Putin doing what US analysts all say will happen- he will just use the pause to build up and go again?
@sloppyrl@DrewDrewski86@secretsqrl123@WarMonitor3 So far (admittedly its early days) "Trump the master deal maker" seems to be giving Putin everything he wants for nothing in return. Even before the negotiations proper begin! So why are you impressed that Putin will "consider" negotiations?
@TeeGulish@evenstevenmb@gigi_3712@ZelenskyyUa@Keir_Starmer Why does any dominated people finally manage to throw off their oppressors at a certain time? Why did the US have a "sudden orbit change" under Trump, throwing 80 years of security architecture in the garbage? US allies praised it over Ukr (until now ofc)
@simplejack2025 @secretsqrl123 USA should support Euro allies because that was the deal. US even encouraged Europeans like the Germans NOT to invest heavily in military(gave US world leader position amongst other reasons).European militaries are so enmeshed with US structures that they can't operate well alone
@JuniusJuvenalis@NSAFELLA@NicholasVinocur Yes, but that was then- this is now. The lies they were sold have been exposed and most Brits don't think Brexit has been a good thing in the end. Personally, I don't really want to open all those old, terribly divisive wounds again. But don't assume that the 52/48 still holds
@TeeGulish@evenstevenmb@gigi_3712@ZelenskyyUa@Keir_Starmer Yes but NOW (at last) they have managed to establish a democracy and free themselves from the Ru dominance, you propose to throw them under the bus?!? Helping Ukr has cost a tiny fraction of GDP
@TeeGulish@evenstevenmb@gigi_3712@ZelenskyyUa@Keir_Starmer Russia's Afghanistan war was not a forever war. Eventually, IF the West stands firm, Ru won't be able to sustain the terrible costs. Most analysts suggest the crunch is coming. And how quickly did you expect to get Ru to that point, realistically? We need patience- like our enemy
As Trump makes concessions to Russia, he is showing weakness on a level unprecedented in modern US history. His position is so weak that it is unlikely to convince anyone. Trump is a sheep in wolf’s clothing. The wolves can tell the difference.

The main arguments made against intervention in Syria to protect Syrians from Assad in 2013 were:
1 - Regime change will lead to a million dead and a 10 year civil war.
2 - It will lead to a wider global conflict between the west and Iran & Russia.
3 - Assad may be replaced by an Islamist.
In the end, we got all 3, and Syria was destroyed for 10 further years for nothing.
Those same people are now listing the reasons why abandoning Ukraine in her hour of need is the best possible solution to this war. These people are trying to frogmarch us all into the jaws of fascism, and they will still get the war they oppose regardless of how much they appease the tyrants.
I say no. This far, no further. Russian fascism must be destroyed for European democracy to survive. I would rather die standing and facing my enemy than on my knees bowed before him.
