PRODUCER @JonoWilly ON A MAGICAL DAY watching his beloved Tractor Boys pull off the upset at Spurs 💙🚜
A WIN 22 YEARS IN THE MAKING. To witness my boyhood team Ipswich Town win their first Premier League game in more than two decades, live and in person, with my entire family, is a reminder why we, as fans, constantly chase that footballing high. Wins like this, and the feelings it provide, that is what sustains us. It’s the oasis we call back to during barren spells of mediocrity. They’re indelible victories that seem inevitable and never-ending when you’re young. But at my vintage, you understand their rarity and try to truly savor. This is a win and a date they will forever be etched into my sporting cortex. A first top flight win in 22 years. Experienced with my four-year-old son and wife (their first Premier League game), both of my parents (who took me to my first Ipswich game 32 years ago). I hope it’s not another 22 years before Ipswich win another Premier League. But even if they do, I promise I won’t complain ❤️🇺🇸🏴❤️
IPSWICH FAN JW WRITES 💙✍️💙
So much of what is good in my life is down to football. Memories with family. Lifelong friendships. My entire career.
The spark that started the fire: Ipswich Town Football Club.
I fell in love with them as a 10-year-old living in the village of Martlesham Heath, six miles east of Ipswich. My father is a retired American fighter pilot, and in 1992 my family was stationed at RAF Woodbridge/Bentwaters, a relic of the US Army Air Corps' presence in England during the Second World War. I was instantly hooked. This was my club for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and health.
Today, they are promoted to the Premier League for the first time in 22 years, more than half my lifetime. It has been more than two decades of illegal streams, constantly refreshing Twitter, and binging YouTube highlights. That's the life of lower-league football fans in America. Out in the cold, our face pressed up against the window, watching the Premier League party inside, dreaming that one day, we'll be invited.
Supporting a lower-league club also presents the challenge of having to explain that team's existence to casual sports fans. "So, they're like a Triple A team?" "Why have I never seen them on TV?" "Do they play Manchester United?" They feel like a partner that I tell people about, but who can never actually attend family events. And so everyone thinks they’re imaginary.
And so today, as Ipswich get promoted. There is immense joy, an emotion that has been fleeting in my life as a sports fan (that rare Arizona Cardinals, Washington Wizards, Ipswich Town trifecta, the result of a transient military brat existence). There's also a shared moment with my three-year-old son, who has only just started to understand and shown curiosity in sports and "the Horsey Team," named for the Horse on Ipswich’s badge.
But more than all of that, there is a realization of how much my life will change next season. To be able to watch every minute of every game will be an embarrassment of riches. To have people on these shores know who I'm talking about, or at least have heard of Ipswich Town. The once imaginary friend will now be at EVERY family event. And while the brutal, unforgiving nature of the Premier League may make all of that fleeting, I am going to savor every second of it.
Someone tell lifelong Ipswich fan Ed Sheeran to get the beers ready. I'll be over just as soon as I can. 🍻
@springsteen@Ticketmaster@StubHub those who resold tickets because the original concert date was postponed are not eligible for refunds unless event is “cancelled”. If everyone is going for refunds anyway why not just “cancel”?
(4/5) When the new 2024 dates are announced, those unable to attend on the new date who purchased their tickets through official ticketing companies have 30 days to request a refund. All tickets for postponed performances will remain valid for the newly announced dates.
HS Kids are playing too much lacrosse in the summer.
The second half of July has been tough to watch.
These kids are cooked and they’re not playing to the best of their ability.
We need to look for a better way to serve the recruits and the recruiters in June/July. Thoughts?👇
Dec has finally gone. He’s a good man from a fantastic family but when it comes to WH I can’t help but think his “love” for the club was a bit fraudulent? He’s given up everything he had with us to win trophies yet he goes with Arsenal over City?? It doesn’t sit well with me….
If that handball is against West Ham it’s given. I’m so fucking sick of this technology and the useless, corrupt cunts that sit behind it. How many more times have we got to go through this before an enquiry is made into these decisions and why they are being made? Disgraceful.
