One night I asked my mom how she knew my dad was โthe one.โ She didnโt say butterflies. She didnโt say grand gestures.
She said, โThere was a year I wasnโt okay.โ
She told me after I was born, she felt overwhelmed all the time. She stopped talking as much. Stopped laughing as loudly. She said she felt guilty for not being her usual self.
And my dad didnโt demand the โold herโ back.
He just started doing small things.
He would wake up earlier to pack her lunch.
Heโd fold the laundry without announcing it.
Heโd sit beside her on the couch and just hold her hand without asking a single question.
She said one night she finally cried and told him she felt like she was failing at everything.
He didnโt interrupt.
Didnโt give a motivational speech.
Didnโt say โbut you have so much to be grateful for.โ
He just listened.
And the next week?
He didnโt treat her like she was fragile.
Didnโt bring it up during arguments.
Didnโt use it as proof that she was โtoo emotional.โ
He loved her the same. Calm. Steady. Normal.
My mom looked at me and said,
โThatโs when I knew. Love isnโt the loud days. Itโs who stays gentle on the quiet ones.โ
And suddenly their 20+ years together made sense.
Real love doesnโt panic when youโre not at your best.
It adjusts.
It waits.
It stays.
Anonymous confession:
My friend was freaking out because she thought she might be pregnant, but she was too embarrassed to go buy pregnancy tests herself.
So today I went and bought them for her, four tests. All four came back positive.
I was quietly asking myself how she managed to screw up this badly.
Then she sat there crying on my shoulder and asked,
โHow am I supposed to provide for four kids at once?โ
At that point, all my questions disappeared, and honestly, Iโm not surprised she got pregnant.
1. Our skeletons are wet.
2. your nose is ALWAYS in your line of sight, but your brain ignores it
3. When you receive a donated kidney, they donโt take out the bad one. They just add the good one in.
4. Your immune system doesn't know you have eyes. Otherwise, it would attack them and make you blind. injuring one eye can introduce eye bits to the bloodstream and basically give your immune system the knowledge of having eyes. then it might decide it really fucking hates that and attack your non-injured eye.
5. The quality of the male sperm is responsible for morning sickness, preeclampsia, babyโs gender and almost every single pregnancy related issue.
6. You breathe through one nostril at a time. Donโt believe me? Put your finger below your nose and try.
7. The brain itself has no nerve endings, so it canโt feel pain. Thatโs why patients can be wide awake during brain surgery and made to perform certain actions.
8. That ringing in silence isnโt silence
When everything is quiet and you hear a faint ringing?
Thatโs your brain listening to its own nervous system.
You are hearing yourself functioning.
9. You will never experience your own death.
You only experience approaching itโฆ Then nothing.
Everyone else gets closure, stories, funerals, and memories.
You donโt.
You never know youโve become a memory.
From your perspective, the story just stops mid-sentence.
