This angle gets me, where he’s just kind of standing there soaking it in, then sees his daughter and smiles, then instantly melts into tears … whew. Hell of a run, 35.
Ted Williams is getting a lot of attention lately for his newly discovered video on hitting. In it, he says something about timing that every young hitter needs to understand.
“You keep talking about missing the ball underneath. There is one absolute truth in this, that 90% of the time you miss a ball, you're under. What does that mean? It means one thing. What does underneath mean? It means that it was by you! You were late! Your first concern should not be I want to get on top. That's no swing!”
Think about that.
What looks like a BAT PATH problem can actually be a TIMING problem.
A hitter keeps getting underneath the ball, so what do we immediately tell him?
“Get on top of it.”
“Swing down.”
“Stop dropping your barrel.”
But what if his swing isn't the problem?
What if he simply needs to:
START EARLIER.
GET INTO POSITION SOONER.
BE READY TO HIT ON TIME.
Suddenly, the same swing that was underneath the baseball starts squaring it up.
Before completely changing a hitter's swing because of the RESULT, make sure you've correctly diagnosed the CAUSE.
Sometimes the best swing adjustment is a timing adjustment.
Do you see it?! 👀 Watch Closely…
Aside from pitch location, pitch type…
There’s an important detail with a High Level Swing that sticks out the most.
…And it’s clear as day with these 4 swings.
