It’s becoming almost certain that the next-generation Xbox will be able to run Steam games. But if Steam games have free online multiplayer while Xbox console games still require a paid subscription for online multiplayer, who would ever choose to buy games from the Xbox Store?
I understand that there were some inevitable reasons behind the recent Xbox Game Pass price hike, but it was also the perfect opportunity for Xbox to announce free online multiplayer. Xbox missed that opportunity.
(In fact, they’ve been missing good opportunities like this for a long time.)
