NM Highlands upset the #11 nationally ranked and conference leading Mesa Mavericks in Game 1 of today’s doubleheader.
⚾️ Jardin Martinez was amazing on the mound for the Cowboys.
Martinez pitched a 7 inning complete game, during which he allowed only 1 run on a mere 4 hits, while issuing just 3 walks and striking out 3.
⚾️ Tucker Simpson led the Cowboys at the plate, as he went 1 for 4 with a 2 run single in the top of the 5th.
NM Highlands was also excellent in the field, producing at least two ESPN web gem worthy plays.
Since the web gems and Simpson’s big hit were previously posted, here are four plays that epitomize the hustle and desire possessed by this Cowboys’ team and the control that Martinez displayed on the mound:
NM Highlands scores first!
In the top of the 5th, the Cowboys scored 3:
⚾️ Benito Martinez hit an extremely hard ball to short that was too hot to handle, which brought in the runner at 3rd.
⚾️ Tucker Simpson hit a 2 run RBI single.
Going into the bottom of the 5th, it’s NM Highlands 3, Mesa 0

While Pueblo forced extra innings and even scored in the top of the 10th, the Cowboys came back once again in the bottom of the inning.
In the bottom of the 10th:
⚾️ Carlos Chavez (1 for 4, 1 RBI, 1 Run) was hit by a pitch;
