A warm homecoming took place today at the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Berlin, as the former Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs of Nigeria, H.E. Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, who previously served as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Germany from 2017 to 2023, paid a courtesy visit to the Ambassador-Designate to Germany, H.E. Senator Ita Enang.
In attendance were Mr. Mohammed Bashir Basha (Minister), alongside other officers of the Embassy.
It was a memorable moment of continuity, mentorship, and dedication to service in the pursuit of Nigeria’s diplomatic objectives abroad.

Dr Abati on Arise TV describes Amb. @YusufTuggar’s resignation as a glorious exit. Commended by colleague, he’s making waves with Nigeria’s strategic autonomy and the 4Ds- Democracy, Diaspora, Demography, Development. A top contender for the Bauchi seat.
There are moments in service when words fall short.
Standing with the men and women of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (@NigeriaMFA), and Heads of Agencies at the valedictory service and farewell dinner, organised by the Ministry within just a few hours, was a powerful reminder of the depth of commitment and thoughtfulness that defines this institution.
This Ministry remains one of the most patriotic, yet often overlooked, pillars of our nation.
Behind every engagement, every negotiation, every outcome; are professionals who carry Nigeria on their shoulders, quietly, diligently, and with a deep sense of duty. Many have given their best years to this service, sometimes without the recognition they deserve, yet never losing sight of the mission.
When we set out to reposition Nigeria’s foreign policy through the 4D doctrine, it was with a clear understanding of a changing world; one that demands strategic autonomy, clarity of purpose, and the confidence to engage globally on our own terms.
The work has not been easy. It requires support, trust, and a system that allows diplomacy to function as it should. But within this Ministry lies the capacity, the intellect, and the commitment to deliver.
There is still more to be done; more to build, more to strengthen, more to protect.
As I take this next step, I leave with deep respect for the institution, and even deeper appreciation for the people who keep it alive.
As the Turkish poet Hikmet once said,
“I will only take the sorrow of an unfinished song.”

Being state governor in Nigeria is a far more job lucrative than Foreign Minister. He will be sorely missed in Abuja. He helped navigate a potentially devastating bilateral relationship with the US with aplomb. A great spokesman for Nigeria/Global South.https://t.co/Efqg2luY14
On 4th March 2025, I met Foreign Affairs (@NigeriaMFA) Minister HE @YusufTuggar at Chatham House, London. He was visiting to strengthen diplomatic relations, reinforce shared interests, and boost trade and investment in Nigeria by showcasing our economic potential to UK 🇬🇧.
He was on the stage for over an hour. He held his own. I was very proud of him and of Nigeria 🇳🇬.
With Minister HE @YusufTuggar, Nigeria has maintained a dignified stance per our foreign policy. The diaspora saw him as a reliable foreign relations expert.
He brought back respect to Nigeria in the committee of nations 👏🏽.
He is a hard-working leader who will certainly be missed at FEC. However, Bauchi needs HE @YusufTuggar.
Thank you for your service, Honourable Minister. Good luck for the future 💙.

Africa holds 17-18% of the world’s population, yet millions still live without safe water and basic sanitation; costing economies up to 7% of GDP and claiming over 400,000 preventable lives each year.
At the 39th Ordinary Session of the African Union Assembly, African leaders convene in Addis Ababa to confront these realities; placing sustainable water availability, safe sanitation systems, health resilience, and strong governance at the centre of delivering Agenda 2063.

Improving the pilgrimage experience for Nigerian pilgrims remains a shared priority grounded in coordination, planning, and respect for worship.
I welcomed Dr. Tawfig F. AlRabiah, Minister of Hajj and Umrah Affairs of Saudi Arabia, for a working meeting focused on practical steps to ease travel logistics and strengthen coordination for pilgrims. Our discussions centred on efficiency, dignity, and ensuring a smoother journey of worship through clearer processes and closer institutional collaboration.

Strengthening bilateral ties and effective consular cooperation remains central to Nigeria’s diplomatic engagement.
I received H.E. Muhannad Halmouri, Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Nigeria, on a courtesy visit @NigeriaMFA. Our discussion focused on strengthening #NigeriaPalestineRelations, reviewing consular and humanitarian cooperation, and exchanging views on regional developments, including the humanitarian situation in Gaza.
I reaffirmed Nigeria’s enduring support for the Palestinian people and our commitment to justice, peaceful coexistence, and respect for international law. We also discussed prospects for deeper engagement, including a potential visit by the Palestinian Foreign Minister, as both countries remain committed to sustained dialogue and cooperation.
