Had an interview with a “crypto” recruiter. We talked for about 40 minutes, and then they asked me to look at some code.

Their first instruction was to clone the repo. I didn’t. They seemed surprised, so I told them I wanted a moment to check whether it was safe first.

I ran a quick analysis with Claude.

Turns out the code had a backdoor. It would copy my environment variables and send them to a remote server.

The recruiter went speechless and ended the call pretty quickly.

📜 THE BURIED STORY

On the eve of Nigeria's independence in 1960, a traditional land owner and diviner in a small Igbo village announced he had been visited by spirits who taught him how to read and write.

His name was Ogbuevi Nwagu Aneke from Udi, Enugu State.

He spent decades filling exercise books with unique characters he called Igbo shorthand, a complete writing system he believed was a spiritual message for the salvation of the black man.

His kinsmen thought he had lost his mind. He lost his fortune pursuing it. He lost his social standing defending it.

He never stopped.

Today his script sits in the archives of UMass Boston as one of the most remarkable examples of indigenous African intellectual resistance ever documented. A man who heard something the world was not ready for and wrote it down anyway.

Not every giant is celebrated in their time. Some are just ahead of it.
