Unpopular Outlander opinion- I wish the show had just left the Beardsleys out, boring side plot, adds nothing and drags. Imagine how much more core character development we could have had!

There’s a reason so many people were more taken by Debling, the show presented him as appealing and as genuinely in to Pen. It tells us Colin is sensitive but shows him as immature and fickle, essentially bouncing from the brothel to the carriage.
