@wullie_blake@VerticalKitten@andrewbrady@alexbronzini ofc it's a travesty Black people had to endure slavery and have their roots cut off. besides the gravity of that, i think not capitalising White just flies in the face of our working everyday conceptions of how race and culture are interrelated, as in this maybe silly screenshot.
@deezhawn@wetworkarchive i was gonna say, like, the opposite: adhd peeps might have had fewer examples overall, but at least one of their parents was probably modelling alternative self-regulation strats
@drmbennett to me what i’m willing to disclose when ashamed and what i can acknowledge to myself is dissociable. so i don’t immediately relate to “limits what we can be conscious of”; could you say more about that?
(also like any emotion it biases what you tend to perceive, but that’s dif.)
@benjcartlidge i think he’s talking about, like, formatting the bibliography.
e.g. you have just “smith, 2001” in the draft, & you’ve read smith backwards, but you still have to do the busywork of citing him properly in the end.
either that or a prelim lit search, “get me some things to read”
@Y2SHAF photography is making a moment out of what’s available, starting with the framing (and therefore leaving things out of frame).
or perhaps even pattern matching something as snap-worthy (of a genre).
it often isn’t innocent even before post-production!
@Jeanvaljean689 good answer! and this self probably has a history of gradual differentiation of inside/outside, coming to know your body as yours, etc.
or is it a really real and good self that exceeds our models? but we come to know it? i have no idea! it just passes by unquestioned every time
@foomagemindset aha, outside of qualia/deflation, we yet have a question of moral patience/agency mixed in there somewhere, which gives it some stakes.
i can't tell if you're being a bit defensive or saying you did mean the psychology "theory of mind" sense in the first place!
People who’ve looked into it: is it more that the body keeps the score/samskaras model is correct where unprocessed emotions are kept somewhere and need to be repaid (ideally) or more like the “what you feed persists” model and you should just DO STUFF and forget about ‘em?
this is a more level-headed take. processing is more like understanding than feeling, although not without it. call it 'parts work'.

Ugh. It’s not “expressing” your feelings that helps. It’s the capacity to symbolize them and understand them, ie to think about them, that helps you gain control over how they effect you, whether they help you derive meaning in life, etc. But that often requires talking.
