@Sophiemcneill , former ABC Four Corners producer, former Human Rights Watch Australia researcher and now WA Greens MP:
“In 17 years covering wars and conflict, the young people of Hong Kong are the bravest I’ve ever met.”
Civic groups face attacks from CCP’s disinformation and cognitive warfare, as well as substantial resources gap between us and the political parties. Under these circumstances, achieving the results in the recall of 24 seats, we hope that the legislators who faced recall should re-examine their past behavior and continue to listen to public opinion in the future, serving as legislators who defend Taiwan's sovereignty and unite against the aggression of the Chinese Communist regime.
In response to all harmful pro-China bills passed by KMT legislators, civic groups swiftly mobilized the public momentum accumulated from last year's Bluebird Movement, making the recall actions to bloom everywhere.
面對國民黨立委接連通過傷害國家利益的親中法案,民間團體迅速動員,延續去年青鳥行動所累積的社會能量,讓罷免行動遍地開花。(1/4)
Among the 24, 7 seats actually reached the recall threshold. Legislators facing recall are mostly from KMT strongholds with established local organizational strength. However, the great recall movement still gained over 1.3 million petitions and over 1.6 million votes, reflecting a considerable number of voters expressing dissatisfaction with their district legislators.
The 60% recall voting turnout for the recall demonstrates that the Taiwanese people placed considerable importance on this recall action. This result is approaching the benchmark of 70% of presidential elections in Taiwan; while previous recall cases usually receive around 50% at most.
這次罷免的投票率高達六成,顯示台灣人民對此次行動高度重視,個數字已接近總統大選七成的投票率,遠高於過去罷免案大多僅約五成的情況。(2/4)
Media outlets are clear: this recall is an anti-CCP movement, initiated by citizens, not led by political parties.
Yet KMT repeatedly denies this reality. But international media and voters can see right through it.
This is just embarrassing. Snatching Taiwan’s congratulatory telegram? Really? Attacking others after losing shows zero sportsmanship.
CCP brutality isn’t just international. It’s right there in Taiwan’s legislature too.

Deeply grateful to @heldavidson and the @guardian for your excellent coverage on Taiwan's #GreatRecall. This story interviewed many parties while also highlighting people's will to removing the pro #CPP legislators. https://t.co/CrLDul0blJ
Thanks to the House for passing the Taiwan Conflict Deterrence Act!
This bipartisan bill calls for disclosing CCP elites’ U.S. assets if China takes military action against Taiwan.
CCP and KMT share a trait:
Anti-American at work, pro-American in life.
The public deserves to know.

Key moments from Taiwan’s CEC #Recall Public Forum
🔹 On Taiwan’s sovereignty:
🔴 3 lawmakers from Taipei focused solely on domestic issues, sidestepping sovereignty.
🔴 Wang Hung Wei called Taiwan a "city" after a short hesitation.
🔴 Hung Meng Kai used the term “Taiwan region.”
🔴 Liao Hsien Hsiang claimed “doctors from China are not foreign doctors.”
🔴 Only Hsu Chiao Hsin stated opposition to the CCP aggression and cognitive warfare—but emphasized this doesn’t mean rejecting China’s culture, economy, or people.
🔹 On their trip to China and meeting with Wang Huning:
🔴 Liao Hsien Hsiang claimed it was a "Cross-Strait Icebreaking Visit."
🔴 Hsu Chiao Hsin said they discussed “agricultural products.”
🔴 Wang Hung Wei said it was “about tourism” and claimed it wasn’t a secret meeting since “photos were taken.”
⛔️ But only one Chinese state media covered the meeting. Can that really be trusted?
8 days until the #GreatRecall vote. Taiwan’s Central Election Commission held a public forum for citizens and lawmakers facing recall.
KMT legislator Wang Hung wei called Taiwan a “city”—refusing to recognize it as a country, even in public.
Once again, the KMT proves it's Beijing’s voice in our legislature.
@committeeonccp Thanks for your support!
It's always important to strengthen our defense ability to deter potential threat from our authoritarian neighbor. Taiwan stands with you as we defend our values together.
Deeply grateful to the U.S. House for your strong support of Taiwan. Your decisive actions to counter authoritarian threats and strengthen defenses across all domains demonstrate our shared commitment to democracy and freedom!
The House is making big moves this week to counter the CCP, support Taiwan, and strengthen U.S. defenses across every domain from ships to space.🇺🇸🛰️🚢✈️
Here’s what’s we're watching and supporting🧵
On July 26, Taiwan will hold #GreatRecall votes targeting 24 KMT legislators. The official press conference was held today, featuring 5 legislators from New Taipei, 1 from Hsinchu, 1 from Yunlin, and one of the most contentious legislators, Fu Kun-Chi, from Hualien.
Here’s what happened:
🔹 2 New Taipei legislators were absent.
Chang Chih-Lun was absent again—just as he was during last year’s legislative election debate. Lin Teh-Fu also failed to attend.
--
🔹 Liao Hsien-Hsiang, also from New Taipei, claimed the KMT defends the ROC but controversially said, “Doctors from China are not foreign doctors.”
On mocking VP Hsiao’s car incident, he added: “Can’t China stage a car crash? Would Czech authorities fail to catch a troublemaker?”
--
🔹 Fu Kun-Chi left the venue twice during the lead petitioner’s presentation, raising questions about his willingness to engage with the public.
What Beijing fears most is the #GreatRecall—because once KMT lawmakers are ousted, the CCP loses its local collaborators.
That’s why they’re desperately trying to portray the GreatRecall as a DPP-led partisan campaign. But the truth is: all 31 recall cases against KMT lawmakers were initiated by citizens.
Civil society vs KMT,
The score stands at 31:0.
Taiwan launched #HanKuangExercise yesterday with multiple "firsts": 10-day exercises, training against China's "gray zone" tactics, and using supermarkets as shelters.
Taiwan signals to the world: We have clear, proactive defense resolve.
Meanwhile, CCP hits back with export bans on 8 Taiwan companies.
Expert take: Thanks for accelerating our non-red defense supply chain.😉
