🔥🚨DEVELOPING: The Short Rib Sandwich at All Well in the West Loop is an instant contender for sandwich of the year and if that wasn’t enough they also fry up a fantastic batch of lake perch, a real rarity in Chicago. Excellent meal from the same folks behind two starred Oriole.
Supposedly she’s Swedish and if so she probably hasn’t had a ton of proper burgers but Southern Illinois is only part of the Midwest by definition, being Illinois and all. Culturally it’s the south where the burgers aren’t nearly as good as they are in Midwest.
Fantastic falafel sandwiches found @ Friends House Bakery in Niles. It’s Assyrian owned so they’re doing Iraqi falafel stuffed into samoon that was still hot after being baked to order. Lettuce, tomato, cucumber, Amba sauce made with pickled green mangos round it out. Hidden gem!
I always enjoy Iraqi style falafel which is unique in shape ensuring maximum crispiness throughout and seasoned a bit differently particularly with a heavy dose of dried spices like cumin + sesame seeds. The Amba sauce is an Iraqi-Jewish condiment that pairs up perfectly with it.
Making some Giardiniera Aioli for the debut of the Smash & Dip at Roscoe Village Burger Fest this weekend. Stop by the Chicago’s Dog House stand to say hi and give it a try. I’ll be there all day on Saturday.
Perfection comes in many forms but none of them are quite as colorful and as tasty as a Chicago style hot dog. Wishing a very happy National Hot Dog Day to you and yours!
Breakfast at Carnitas Don Lucho on the South Side of Milwaukee. A Brew City favorite of mine. We’re here for handmade corn tortillas the size of a dinner plate packed with carnitas estilo Michoacana (surtida por favor). I know Milwaukee’s food scene better than most Milwaukeeans!
Cambo Hot Beef @ Num Pang in Milwaukee’s 3rd St. Market Hall - braised Cambodian beef roast with Papaya Salau, Chili-Oil Aioli, Carrots, Daikon, and Cilantro on a fresh baked French baguette with infused broth for dipping. @jonessoruthless called it “sandwich of the year so far”.
El Tri pregame stop at No Pasa Nada at Lawrence + Kilbourn. This real deal taco trailer sitting in the parking lot of an auto repair shop is straight out of LA but they fly the Chicago flag. Menu is tight with charcoal grilled steak and al pastor plus quesadillas. #ChiTacoTour 🇲🇽
Detroit is different and I mean that in the best way possible. It has its own unique character and a culture that many other U.S. metros seriously lack.
Friday Fish Fry in the form of fish & chips at Scotty Simpson’s. An all time favorite stop on the Roadfood circuit. The cod comes from Nova Scotia and the batter cracks when you take a fork to it. Great fries too. The best chippy on the U.S. side of the Detroit River. Since 1950.
The best of old Comiskey meets the Chicago skyline. This is what the Sox should build.
New episode of The Lore with @Travis_Sawchik and @MLBCathedrals@ChicagoMag
Lots of deep dish discourse on my timeline today but haven’t seen any mentions of George’s Deep Dish in Edgewater. This is pizza worth seeking out in Chicago.
