The Church does not exist for herself, but to lead every person to an encounter with the Lord. It is therefore not enough to ask whether an activity is well organized, well attended, or has been running for many years. We must ask whether it truly leads people to Christ and brings the Gospel into contact with the concrete realities of people’s lives.

Witnesses of faith do not propose an ideology; rather, they reveal a faith lived out in daily life. Their credibility stems from the consistency between their words and actions, a consistency often maintained even to the point of the ultimate sacrifice. In indifferent cultural contexts, “the holiness next door” and quiet heroism become compelling arguments capable of challenging everyone, even the most distrustful.

In the #GospelOfTheDay (cf. Mt 18:21-35) Jesus reminds us that gift and forgiveness are the foundation of our existence. All things are given to us by God out of pure love, and none of us can claim to be perfect in responding to such goodness. For this reason, gratuitousness — which is the source of our existence — is also the best rule for our life together.

“We are bishops, but first and foremost we are disciples.”

Pope Leo XIV reminded 147 new bishops from five continents that their first responsibility is to “remain with Jesus.” He urged them to become shepherds who know their people personally: “Learn their names, listen to their stories, enter their homes whenever possible, and pray with them.” The Pope also called them to care especially for their priests, reminding them that even a phone call, visit, blessing or word of encouragement can remain in someone’s heart for a lifetime.

Jesus said to his disciples : "A good tree does not bear rotten fruit, nor does a rotten tree bear good fruit.
For every tree is known by its own fruit. For people do not pick figs from thornbushes, nor do they gather grapes from brambles.
A good person out of the store of goodness in his heart produces good, but an evil person out of a store of evil produces evil; for from the fullness of the heart the mouth speaks.
Why do you call me, 'Lord, Lord,' but not do what I command?
I will show you what someone is like who comes to me, listens to my words, and acts on them.
That one is like a person building a house, who dug deeply and laid the foundation on rock; when the flood came, the river burst against that house but could not shake it because it had been well built.
But the one who listens and does not act is like a person who built a house on the ground without a foundation. When the river burst against it, it collapsed at once and was completely destroyed."

Described as "the most successful ditching in aviation history," Captain Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger III crash-landed US Airways Flight 1549 on the Hudson River on January 15, 2009, saving the lives of all his passengers and crew members in the process.

Shortly after taking off from LaGuardia Airport in New York City, the passenger plane had struck a flock of geese, which had caused irreparable damage to the aircraft's engines. After several failed attempts to restart the engines, Sullenberger calculated that it would be impossible to fly back to LaGuardia, and he quickly ruled out landing at another nearby airport in New Jersey.

Though an emergency water landing was incredibly risky, the pilot believed it would provide the highest chance of survival for everyone on the plane, and he was right.
