Back in 2022, a friend asked me a question that lingered long after the conversation ended.

Would I care about Ukraine if I weren’t Ukrainian? I answered yes but later wondered whether that answer had been entirely honest.

I think I can let go of those doubts now because of how I feel about what’s happening in Iran.

I feel it in the way my heart breaks for Iran. I have no ties to Iran. I don't have any Iranian friends. And yet I grieve for the brave Iranians murdered by the blood-soaked ayatollahs’ regime. I’m also beyond proud of the Iranian people fighting for their freedom.

So now I have my answer: You don’t have to be Ukrainian to care about Ukraine. You don’t have to be Iranian to care about Iran.
You only have to be human.
