Happy Woman's Day

➡️She was born in a village in Nalanda (Bihar) in 1955.
➡️She discontinued her studies in class 5th. The reason cited by her was she did not want to attend school in a saree, which was the norm in her village once girls attained puberty.
➡️She assisted her mother in taking care of her five younger siblings.
➡️She was married off at the age of 13.
➡️At age 17, she had her first child, a son. By 21, she was a mother of 3 children (two sons and a daughter).
➡️She shifted to a city after her husband got a job.
➡️Their first home was half a room (one room shared between two families). Three members lived in that half room.
➡️The elder son had voracious appetite. One litre of milk wasn’t enough. As her husband’s income was meagre, they could not afford more milk than that. ➡️She used to mix water in the milk and feed her son.
➡️Her 2-year old son also used to “steal” food prepared by the other family to satisfy his hunger. This left her embarrassed but there was no alternative.
➡️She could just about read Hindi alphabets, however, was unable to read English.
➡️She understood the importance of education (as she had missed out on that) and ensured that her children got proper education. She was a housewife, and ensured that her children studied without any distraction.
➡️Today, she is a proud mother. Her children are well settled, having received the best education from the best of institutes.
➡️She was uneducated, having dropped out of school in class 5th, born and brought up in a remote village in Bihar, but had big dreams for her children. ➡️Her hard work, courage and wisdom bore fruit.
➡️She is my mother Mrs Kamala Devi, and I am her eldest child.
➡️Today, I pay my regards to her on Woman’s Day.
➡️I am sure every mother is like my mother, who does her best for the family and children. I salute all women today.
