The fact that so many responses to the elhermano situation obfuscated and downplayed proved the underlying problem. Women are telling us that this behavior is harmful and that it’s emblematic of broader issues in the community.

LISTEN. BELIEVE THEM. Be a part of the solution.

I really hope that the takeaway isnt just the fact that this guy is a terrible individual, and thats why everyone should care.

Myself included, men need to take the time to learn why these kinds of “jokes” are harmful BEFORE this kind of evidence surfaces.

If the next time this happens and you don’t care until a document comes out outting an individual’s character behind closed doors, then what would happen if there was no evidence of them being a problematic individual outside of these kinds of jokes?

What helped me understand this better was to stop evaluating the intent, but evaluating the social distribution of cost.

Elhermano posting“Looking for a TFT girlfriend (serious)” bears none but a woman bears all of it (if she’s not into it he’s joking, but if she’s into it he means it). While he’s given a free exit, she has to decide in real time whether to laugh, ignore, or object, and every option has a downside. That’s decidable from the tweet alone, with zero knowledge of elhermano’s character.

I want to quote something I found that I thought was really insightful:

You can say something racist without being a racist.

The discourse in this tweet doesn’t take cultural context into account at all.

Depending on where you are, Europeans sometimes take the word racism/racist (raciste (FR)/rassist (GER)/etc.) much more seriously, typically branding a person’s entire moral character compared to America’s definition where it can be used in a more casual, broader context.

Also I’m not defending Jedusor at all incase someone’s reading this and lacks reading comprehension. I’m just explaining why players cant seem to agree on why this is/isn’t racist
