I can happily say in my ER, comments/jokes/remarks like that are called out (I’m not naive enough to say every time bc I’m sure there’s a few twats talking absolute bs). But we are a major salad bowl and love each other for everybody’s unique perspectives.

@drannamvaldez @NursePatMacRN My nursing school prof yelled at us, “Do YOU want to be the reason they get a bloodstream infection and DIE?! DO YOU?” No ma’am. It’s been over ten years and I still can hear her. Scrubbing the hub should always be performed in daily practice. I carry alcohol wipes everywhere.

@MurseWordsworth I had 2 pt’s ask where I went to school. 1 was an older lady and she was a diploma school RN who went on to get her MSN&teach. 2 was a man who verbally attacked me: “How did you get in there? It’s impossible! Who do you know?” Bc his daughter was rejected. His wife was mortified

@DrHedrick Hgb of 9. Serum Ferritin: 8ng/mL. Iron, Serum: 25 ug/dL. Unbound Iron Binding Capacity: 517ug/dL. Iron Binding Capacity: 542ug/dL. % Saturation, Iron: 5%. Got iron infusions, but was still dizzy and that was from undiagnosed SVT. I was a mess!

@DrHedrick Last year I got dizzy upon standing one morning. Tried to work, but when I stood my vision would go black, knees would get weak and I’d have to grab something to prevent fall (not great for an ER nurse). Went to PCP and they said your Hgb is 9 so not bad. Asked for an iron panel

@heinrichs_helen @Patricia_Ann_E @WendyHassonMD The FIRST thing I was taught and that I now teach ANY new Nurse and ancillary staff as well is: You treat the patient, NOT the monitor. Plain and simple. Also, if you feel something is wrong, there probably is.

@DrCaitlynK @WendyHassonMD If my pt is at 88% on 4L NC, I’m titrating that up until they hit at least 92% (as the order is generally written that way!) and then calling the doc to come evaluate the pt asap as I want them to find the cause. Post-op, PE or pneumonia comes to mind. Hope he is doing well now!

A patient I had toward the end of my shift yesterday morning was still here last night.

Found out she missed her prom.

Bought her flowers and candy and my lovely child life buddy found me a sash and photo-prop tiara. I walked in and told her we nominated her as ER queen. 🤗
