There’s much to love about the Arts Club LEAP program: collaborating with unnervingly talented young playwrights, AND getting to BEST actors in Vancouver to bring them to life.
People have always been good at imagining the end of the world, which is much easier to picture than ... a world without end. Hope locates itself in the premises that we don't know what will happen and that in the spaciousness of uncertainty is room to act" - Rebecca Solnit
I'm in PEI to deliver a keynote on how theatres can engage their rapidly growing immigrant communities. Name me a STRONG Canadian play that would appeal to either...
1) Mandarin-speaking Chinese,
2) or Punjabi-speaking Indians,
3) or Filipinos.
All these groups can speak English

As any playwright will tell you, there’s nothing like the first time. The first time you hear the dialogue that has been rattling around in your head become airborne by actors. And with the @theArtsClub LEAP program, not just any actors but by some of the best actors in the city.
The last time I acted in someone else’s play was a decade ago. That show included David Mott, and Tamara McCarthy. 10 years later, UP IN THE AIR, has invited me back to play w. these beautiful people. This time, Dave is the playwright, and Tamara is Dramaturg and Director.
That’s a wrap for phase 2 of our 3-year Creations Project at NTS. Working with these beautiful humans, I am co-leading the creation of a brand-new work of Canadian theatre. It will be written by yours truly and this will be their graduating performance/show in 2024.
It’s 10PM. Just had a good preview of ‘Empire of the Son’ here @PacificTheatre. Even though it's late, I don’t wanna go home. I wanna continue lingering here with these people. With people this great, it hardly feels like work. I <3 theatre, but rarely is it as good as this.
Tonight I open ‘Empire of the Son’ at the most beautiful little theatre in the world, @vicplayhouse here in Prince Edward Island. Thanks to @grahamwlea and @johanna_joey_nutter for making my dream come true of performing in all 10 provinces.
Thank you to Josai International University and Shiguemi Ichiyama for asking me to perform ‘Empire of the Son’. Also thanks to Patricia Liu for her her stunning poster design, @ashley Magallon for Stage Managing flawlessly, and my sister Setsu Shigematsu for hiring her little bro
My sister Setsu Shigematsu and I are having an amazing time in Japan with our UCR students thanks to Josai International University and Shiguemi Ichiyama.
