@pgrnhub Many thanks to @pgrnhub, @PacBio and @TwistBioscience for supporting our research. Looking forward to uncovering new insights and advancing the PGx evidence base in Africa with a great team of collaborators.
PS: First grant (3rd time lucky for me) hits different!
The last of our @H3Africa /GSK ADME Project papers, "Characterization of CYP2B6 and CYP2A6 Pharmacogenetic Variation in SubβSaharan African Populations" has just appeared. https://t.co/c017hdfqWS
So excited to present our #PGx poster on CYP2D6, CYP2B6, and CYP2A6 star allele characterisation in African populations at #ESHG2023. Wonderful meeting great colleagues @ChantalResearch and @synthymama π
Such an honour sharing this moment with my PhD supervisors @shazeZA and @dl_zane! Thanks also to my friends, family, colleagues and mentors for the great guidance and support.
We @MRC_Uganda with @eventsWCS @AceUganda@Makerere are organising a Polygenic Risk Score (PRS) analysis workshop in Uganda.
The course is subsidised by Wellcome Connecting Science Courses and Conferences and is FREE to attend.

@H3Africa
Such an honour presenting at the @H3ABioNet 10 year symposium! H3ABioNet has greatly contributed to my bioinformatics training, and opened doors for collaboration with (and learning from) scientists @UVRIug, @SBIMB1, @HPCBio, across Africa and beyond.
#H3ABioNet10YearImpact
I'm very chuffed that the @SBIMB1 has contributed to two articles in Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics (
@ASCPT_ClinPharm) special issue on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
It was great meeting you too @SFatumo! Your mentorship and support of young African scientists is making a difference and setting a great example for us.
This study highlights the distribution of POR star alleles in Africa and across global populations with a view toward informing future precision medicine implementation. Standardisation of the POR allele nomenclature is warranted given the #PGx importance of this gene.
Our #PGx paper on the Characterization of POR haplotype distribution in African populations is now out @PGSjournal. Congrats to @RossBooyse for excellently leading this researchβsuch a pleasure co-supervising him with @shazeZA, @SBIMB1@WitsHealthFac.

Five novel rare POR haplotypes were computationally inferred from the African WGS data; five other unresolved diplotypes contained novel African-ancestry POR alleles. More novel POR alleles were identified in African populations compared to other global populations.
