Bogus Doctor Arrested in Midrand After Practising Illegally for 10 Years
A 50-year-old woman has been arrested by JMPD after being found allegedly practising as a medical doctor without any qualifications or valid registration at a medical clinic on South Road in Midrand.
According to a statement from the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) Tactical Response Unit, officers acted on information about a suspected unregistered medical practitioner at the clinic.
When police arrived, the suspect was found actively consulting with two patients. She was unable to produce any documents authorising her to practise medicine, including a valid Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) practice number.
During questioning, the woman admitted that she had never completed medical training and had no qualifications or certificates authorising her to practise.
She also confessed to working as a “doctor” for over ten years without legal credentials.
Police seized six patients’ files and various items from her consulting room, including prescription pads, sick notes, eye screening certificates, and documents bearing other registered doctors’ names.
Some of the seized material included PCRDP certificates and other professional documents that appear to have been misused in her practice.
The suspect was arrested on charges of fraud and contravention of the Health Professions Act, which makes it a criminal offence for anyone to practise healthcare professions without registration with the HPCSA.
Authorities will now proceed with criminal charges, and the suspect is expected to appear in court on Monday.
Suspected Cash-in-Transit Robber Arrested in Inanda After Police Find Explosives in Parked VW Polo
A suspected cash-in-transit (CIT) robber was arrested in Inanda in the early hours of Saturday, 31 January 2026, after police officers discovered explosives concealed inside a vehicle during a routine patrol.
Members of the Inanda Trio Task Team were patrolling near Ithendele Road and the M25 Curnick Ndlovu Highway just after midnight when they noticed a white VW Polo parked at the roadside.
When officers approached the vehicle to investigate, a search was conducted as part of proactive crime-prevention operations.
During the search, police found explosives with detonators hidden inside a backpack in the boot of the car, prompting the immediate arrest of the lone occupant.
The suspect is believed to be linked to cash-in-transit robberies under investigation by the specialised task team.
He is expected to appear in the Ntuzuma Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 2 February 2026 to face charges.
Police said the incident forms part of ongoing efforts to disrupt “trio” crimes, which involve organised groups committing violent robberies and other serious offences in KwaZulu-Natal.
Police investigations continue following the recovery of the explosive materials.

My 11 year old son painted this. He's autistic and doesn't have friends at school, doesn't get invited to birthday parties, spends most of his time alone in his room. Teachers keep telling me he's "in his own world" like that's a bad thing. I've watched him sit by himself at lunch through the school window and it breaks me every single time.
He started painting six months ago after discovering Bob Ross videos on YouTube. I bought him a cheap canvas set from the dollar store just to see if he'd stick with it. He painted for nine hours straight that first day, wouldn't eat dinner, wouldn't stop. I had to physically take the brush from his hand at midnight.
This is his newest piece. Those mountains, that reflection in the water, the pink and purple sky. He's eleven. I kept staring at it thinking this can't be real, my little boy who can't tie his shoes without getting frustrated made something this beautiful.
I posted it in a painting group because he asked me to, said he wanted to know if "real artists" would think it's good. Within an hour someone commented asking to buy it. I laughed out loud, thought it was a joke or maybe spam. Then another person messaged. Then three more. One woman offered $200 and said it reminded her of where her late husband proposed.
My son doesn't know how to process compliments, he just went quiet and started rocking a little which means he's overwhelmed but in a good way. He asked me if people were being nice because he's "the autism kid" or if they actually meant it. I didn't know what to say.
So I'm asking you all, honestly. Tell me the truth. Is this actually good? Because he's sitting next to me right now waiting to hear what real people think, and I need to know if I should help him open his own little shop or if I'm just a mom who can't see clearly. What do you really think? 🎨💜

“I own a small bakery. Business has been slow. Rent is up. I was thinking about closing. Last Friday, a teenager came in. He looked nervous. He counted out change for a cookie. He was short 50 cents. ‘It’s okay,’ I said. ‘Take it.’ He ate it at a table, looking at his math homework. He looked stuck. I used to be a math tutor. I walked over. ‘Quadratic equations?’ He nodded. ‘I don’t get it.’ I sat down and helped him for 20 minutes. He got it. He left smiling. The next day, he came back with two friends. They bought cookies. The day after that, five kids came. Apparently, he told the school: ‘The lady at the bakery helps with homework.’ Now, my bakery is the after-school hang-out spot. It’s loud. It’s messy. There are backpacks everywhere. But yesterday, I found a note in the tip jar. It was wrapped around a $20 bill. ‘Thanks for helping my son pass math. - A Mom.’ I’m not closing the bakery. I think I finally found my purpose. It’s not cookies. It’s community.”
