The power struggle in the Senate is a factional fight between the pro-Duterte and pro-Marcos camps. Each side wants to control the Senate to protect the members of their respective factions. Both claim to be after truth and accountability, but only with respect to their rivals, not to themselves or their allies.

The challenge for the people is to NOT fall into this false dichotomy of ruling elites. We should not fall into the trap of having to choose between two factions of corrupt politicians and political dynasties. We should reject both and strive to strengthen and expand alternative, progressive movements and parties that can disrupt the status quo, work for genuine accountability and justice, and challenge the reigning corrupt and oppressive bureaucrat capitalist class in all arenas of struggle.
