작가의 말 중 일부 책을 끝낸다는 것은 참으로 이상한 감정이라는 것을 알게 됐다. 완성이라는 단어가 주는 뿌듯함도 잠깐이다. 곧 뒤따라오는 건 공허감이다. 마치 먼 길을 걸어왔는데 막상 목적지에 도착하고 나니 길 자체에 더 흥미가 있었던 건 아닐까 싶어지는 그런 기분. 그래도 이 문장들을 정리하고 남기는 것으로 이 책과의 관계는 일단 끝났다. 끝내야만 다음을 쓸 수 있으니... 이 이야기를 쓰는 동안 특별히 대단한 사건이 있었던 건 아니다. 일상은 매일같이 조용히 흘렀고, 책상 위에 앉아 몇 시간이고 글을 쓰는 일은 계속됐다. 아침에는 커피를 내리고, 밤에는 음악을 들었다. 계절이 몇 번 바뀌는 사이에 한 문장은 두 문장이 되고, 두 문장은 한 페이지가 되었다. 그렇게 책이 완성됐다. 과정은 간단했고 동시에 복잡했다. 이야기는 어디에서 오는 걸까? 나는 종종 스스로에게 그런 질문을 한다. 대답은 솔직히 모르겠다. 기쁨, 슬픔, 권태, 기대감 같은 것들 그 감정들은 나를 통과해 다른 모습으로 바뀌고 아마 당신에게 닿는 순간에는 다시 또 다른 형태로 변화하겠지.
