Some people don't necessarily look or feel like a man or woman, and don't want to be called either, ergo "they/them."

First, pick up any recent biology textbook and you will see that scientists confirm, scientifically, that sex is biological and that gender is a societal construct. Sex, in fact can be non-binary more often than you would think.
