@hootaru_u I’m sorry it’s been so bad, Hotaru. While I certainly look forward to an update on the comm, I’d never feel right about adding to a burden. Is there anything you need? Something I can do to lighten things? 🙏🏻
Philoctetes tells Pyrrhus that “my illness is my country.” And rather than being a flaw, his self-regard ends up all but prescient: a rare species of integrity that demands hedonistic adherence to the Self and rejects utterly any notion that might disallow others from the same.
One of my favorite myths within myths comes from Mark Merlis’s 1998 novel, “An Arrow’s Flight,” published by St Martin’s Press.
The larger story is a retelling of Sophocles’ play, “The Philoctetes,” but this passage turns life and eternity down to their bare useless bones:
Admetus serves, not even as a warning precisely, but rather an indictment of the selfish human need to continue—how one can burn everything important about why we live to go on living.
War, nations, they’re contradictions that lay claim to persistence without admitting cost.
@LemonadeCrimson I get what you mean about TK not being bratty or coy. He’s sorta a blunt instrument; to me, there is appeal in that, because he takes things so deeply and personally (without any apparent ability to self-regulate). Whereas GK wears his emotions quite differently.
