A proffessor from Harvard university with 500-600 cited papers replied within one hour of me sending my email, and a professor from Allahabad University with 4 cited papers can't see my mail sent a month ago. 🥰
I've come to a stage where I've started psychoanalyzing those who hate me, like I'm sorry for the conditions and insecurities you've had while growing up that made you this horrible person today.
Yesterday, I was overwhelmed by the support I received for my speech in Parliament. Many of you shared it widely, I had not posted it myself. I am now sharing the full speech again so those who missed it can watch how this government is excluding and targeting some of the most marginalised sections of our society.
The fight will continue. We will not allow the rights of the LGBTQIA+ community and transgender persons to be diluted, and we will ensure that their dignity, identity, and constitutional protections remain intact.
This Bill is a double assault on the transgender community’s dignity and rights:
• While every MP in Parliament self declares their gender without scrutiny, transgender citizens are being forced to prove their identity before a medical board and the District Magistrate
• From childhood, we are boxed into blue for boys and pink for girls, but identity is deeply personal and constitutionally protected
• At a time when the LGBTQIA+ community is still fighting for recognition of same sex marriage, this government is taking us backwards by removing even the right to self identification
• No meaningful consultation with the transgender community or stakeholders, despite Supreme Court led processes
• The Bill invades privacy, enables discrimination, and opens the door to criminalisation
This is not reform, this is regression. Not protection, but policing of identity.
As Mahatma Gandhi reminded us, “The true measure of any society can be found in how it treats its most vulnerable members.”
India’s transgender community may be facing its most significant challenge since its legal recognition as the ‘third gender’.
The proposed amendments to the Transgender Persons Act were passed in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. They are set to be taken up next in the Rajya Sabha.
The Rajya Sabha on 25 March passed the controversial Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Amendment Bill, drawing sharp responses from Opposition leaders and members of the transgender community.
The Bill proposes changes to how transgender persons are recognised under the law, including provisions related to certification processes and access to welfare schemes. Critics have raised concerns about the role of authorities in determining identity and the potential impact on rights and autonomy.
Speaking during the debate, Congress MP Renuka Chowdhury said, “Even if four MPs can explain to me what LGBTQIA+ means, I will accept this Bill.”
The government maintained that the amendments are intended to improve implementation and delivery of existing provisions.
Protests continue across the country against the (anti) Transgender Rights Bill introduced by the BJP government! #NoGoingBack The community is united to #RejectTransBill2026 ✊🏽🏳️⚧️
A Trans Man is a MAN.
A Trans Woman is a WOMAN.
I OPPOSED the draconian Transgender Amendment Bill in Rajya Sabha today.
It is a pure unbridled EVIL act by the Modi Govt & and an attack on the basic rights of transpersons.
Today is a day of shame.
The BJP through this Bill has institutionalised two major Brahmanical forms of marginalisation and stigmatisation of transgender persons --
i) by eliminating the statutory foundation for the right to gender self-determination on the "basis of any acquirable characteristics or personal choice or claimed self-perceived identity", the BJP is implying that transgender identities cannot be acquired and these acquired, personal identities as abnormal and unnatural. In simpler words, the BJP is saying that trans men, many trans women, and genderqueer people suffer from mental disease and disorder, and/or are coerced into acquiring such identities.
ii) it has revived and legislatively endorsed pernicious myths that cast trans people as evil coercers, which criminalises the transgender persons. Traditional kinship and community support systems such as the guru-chela networks, deras, and gharanas that provide shelter, mentorship, and livelihood could now be construed as “compelling” individuals into a transgender identity. Parents affirming their child’s gender identity, social workers providing counselling, non-governmental organisations offering housing and livelihood support, and medical professionals delivering gender-affirming care all face potential criminal liability.
The message is simple -- socially and legally criminalise the transgenders, segregate and enforce further marginalisation of the community within the social structure.
The “accepted” identities will be processed as subjects, robbed of their privacy and dignity, their identity left at the discretion of the “Authority”.
This draconian and unconstitutional Bill nullifies the very limited progress made in transgender rights, welfare, and reverse decades of advocacy for recognition, dignity, self-respect, inclusion, justice and empowerment for the transgender persons.
This Bill advances systematic exclusion, trauma and violence, both physical and symbolic, of the transgender persons. It disproportionately harms transgender individuals from marginalised caste backgrounds.
Dalit, Adivasi and Muslim trans and genderqueer persons, who face deep economic precarity and social exclusion, already struggle with systemic barriers to resources, safety, livelihood and dignity, and are now at heightened risk of losing even the limited legal protections and social supports they had.

Dark Day for Democracy! Trans Bill passed in both houses. Trans men, trans non binary persons and trans women who are not kinner-hijra will NOT be legally recognised as trans anymore! Bill passed without community or NCTP consultation. Calls to differ to select committee ignored.
“I challenge you, not even 5 MPs here would be able to explain what LGBTQIA+ means. Why should people without this knowledge be allowed to make this Bill? This Bill must be sent to a select committee.” - Rajya Sabha MP from INC Telangana @RenukaCCongress
