Important to understand that the "elected members" of #Syria's parliament, were chosen by only 6,000 electors who were indirectly appointed by President Sharaa.

No general citizens participated in a direct nationwide vote. The rational for this top down formation of the parliament has been that Syria remains too chaotic, which begs the question of whether President Sharaa intends to move Syria toward real elections.

The next most important test for Al-Sharaa's government is the economy. The living conditions of the poor—the majority of the Syrian people—take absolute priority over issues of justice, inclusivity, and the like.

Despite the economic recovery that I believe has clearly begun, the situation for the poor has not and will not improve under the current economic formula.

The formula relies on attracting investment, granting businesses tax cuts and exemptions, and limiting the role of public fiscal and monetary policy. The hope is that the wealthy will compete among themselves, employ the poor, spend domestically, export, and compete globally—ultimately benefiting society as a whole.

This is not a Syrian invention. It's a well-known, well-tested dogma, known as Reaganomics or trickle-down economics.

Its success has been academically evaluated time and again, and it is clear that while it does succeed to a limited extent, it also widens class divides. It often lifts all segments of society, but at a much faster rate for the wealthiest. In other words, it reinforces already massive social inequalities. This is a recipe for renewed social resentment in a society already strained by moral, sectarian, ethnic, and gender divides.

Gunmen storm an exam centre in Jableh, Syria, terrifying students and undermining exam integrity

Armed individuals from a faction linked to the Ministry of Defense stormed the centre after a cheating violation

A female exam proctor caught a student cheating. Unaware he belonged to a military faction affiliated with the transitional government’s Ministry of Defense, she alerted authorities of his cheating. The student reacted furiously and immediately contacted several of his armed comrades, who entered the examination hall carrying small arms and military-grade walkie-talkies.

They proceeded to tear up the cheating report, verbally abusing and threatening the proctor and other examination staff.
