In The Hip we covered Robbie Robertson’s songs and were collectively shaped by his art and band.
At every single Hip gig I played my brown 74 Stratocaster that my folks bought me for my 13th birthday.

I first met Robbie Robertson at Le coq D’or in Toronto in 1964 when The Guess Who was just taking off with “Shakin’ All Over.” He played so incredibly that I took the opportunity to ask him how. He said the secret was to buy a set of Gretsch Strings and put them on his Telecaster. So the extra 2 strings meant he strung a High E, a B and then another B instead of the G. This allows you to bend them to play blues notes. It literally transformed my entire style of playing and stayed with me throughout my career. Thank you for the incredible music. #RIP #musician #guitarist

Undersung hero -
Connie Redbird Pinkerman-Uri (Choctaw/Cherokee) was the first Native American woman to hold a medical and law degree in the US. In the 1970s, she investigated the forced sterilization of Indigenous women by a US gov't agency and that led to the US gov't formally prohibiting the practice.
In 1973, she organized supplies during the Wounded Knee Occupation for protestors and also paid bail for those who had been arrested.
In a world where voices and histories were erased, a lot of flowers for Connie Redbird Pinkerman-Uri.
50 years ago today, we almost lost Stevie Wonder.
He was on his way to play at a benefit concert when a log from a truck hit the vehicle he was travelling in. He suffered a brain contusion and was in a coma for several days. Apparently when his friend and tour director Ira Tucker began to sing “Higher Ground” to him, Stevie began tapping his hand to the rhythm of the song, and slowly regained consciousness.
Later he said that the accident made him more conscious of his life and future, and what he had to do to reach another higher ground
