After several off and on attempts I’m going to really dive into the challenge that is Star Wars print media. And I started with a book on one of my favorite characters, Thrawn! Truly a captivating read, I couldn’t put it down once I started.
@ECarpMain No shit Hannah and I were out tonight at a pretty casual place that did automatic 18% gratuity on all checks… I mean I was going to tip more than that anyway but automatic tips just feels like another way for the restaurant to not pay an actual wage
@ECarpMain Same principle as ships! Body comp can wildly vary. Body size/shape, muscle %, fat %, and distribution of both all affect how much water you displace and how dense you are. Also a skill element with floating funny enough but I’m no pro swimmer so I’ll stick to science
@ECarpMain Technically speaking that’s up to the body of water it sits in. But water depths and other things come into play as well. But physics-wise you’re just talking about one force being larger than the other
@ECarpMain Yep! The more water a ship displaces the larger the upthrust/larger force the water exerts on the ship. But at the end of the day you can’t defeat density. Why all boats to large cargo ships have max capacities. Eventually you’ll hit neutral buoyancy, then negative (sinking)
@ECarpMain Buoyancy, Archimedes’ Principle, Upthrust, etc etc etc
Super simple answer? Density. A ship floats because it weighs less than the same volume of water therefore its avg density is less than that of water. also why ships float higher in saltwater (higher density) than in fresh
@ClemsonTom And as insurance companies continue to pull out of Florida those that remain will only feel more emboldened to charge whatever the hell they want
