Child Abuse needs 100% addressed in UK. Supporter of the Maggie Oliver Foundation & Saving Scotland’s Children who are revealing atrocities happening every day.
@Jennife06113562@davesharp59 Dave I want to say how well you described the experience & consequences of childhood lack of care from the services. That takes great strength to face that pain & write it down. Being brittle Jennifer is not real strength.
@davesharp59@rumpleRach I’ve found books really helpful to describe the pain in my past. They’ve helped me identify & clarify in words what was a mass of feelings that accumulated within me.
@davesharp59@rumpleRach Dave most books have an audio version you can listen to. Some libraries have facilities to let you book audio books or if you prefer apps like Audible.
Thanks for sharing your story @VVoices24 Lee Cooper …. And I share your concerns.
Your own case is a prime example of how the ‘system’ fails at every level, especially in the early days/years when the ‘investigation’ is just poor and half hearted at best. In all honesty as you sadly know only too well, your own case had totally ‘stagnated’ until we became involved and I doubt would ever have even led to an arrest!
Thankfully through my previous professional relationship with a senior police officer @gmpolice , and the involvement of our amazing team at @TMOFCharity The Maggie Oliver Foundation , within 2 DAYS of our involvement, things began to move. It wasn’t rocket science, it was just no one could be bothered to put in the leg work in truth. And that’s shocking.
This ‘tinkering’ at the edges won’t change that. EVERY victim has a right to be heard, the investigation should not just be shelved or not even started. We need major systemic change, a total overhaul of policing and these measures basically won’t even scratch the surface IMO.
So much of what is wrong in policing, courts, prosecutions, victim care is about the culture, about it not prioritising abuse, about lack of determination to progress investigations, about about policing being done ‘on the cheap’, having been politicised and neglected for decades, and perhaps most of all a virtual ‘decriminalisation’ of sexual abuse.
Paltry sentences, not enough prisons, early release schemes after a mere tap on the wrist, lack of any real deterrent for sexual predators, and precious time and resources spent on investigating the ‘easy targets’ and prosecuting naughty words rather than life destroying crimes for ‘ticks in boxes’!!!
I often despair, and from all the thousands of victims we support in The Maggie Oliver Foundation I know that except in rare cases, reporting sexual crime just extends the trauma for the victim, rarely leading to criminal justice outcomes. When you realise that just over 2% of REPORTED rape ever reach a court at all, the other 98% are failed at the very first hurdle. We have a broken system, unfit for purpose from top to bottom.
These “new” measures to me are simply a PR exercise, just the ‘relabelling’ of a room in the court in all honesty! Political point scoring. Easy options. Many of these measures already exist tbh …. Evidence via video link, special entrances which I used in my days as an FLO, separate waiting rooms etc. The fact that they aren’t always used is down to lack of care in many instances, because they do exist already! For meaningful change we need far, far more than this.
Depressing I know. But I only have to know what you’ve had to endure Lee and the battle you’ve fought, to know this is sadly the truth. At times this journey has almost broken you, and we see this every single day in the victims who come to us in despair, broken by the system even more than the abuse they suffered.
It’s a total credit to you that you’ve been able to survive this journey, that you’re still standing, and now you’re putting all your experiences and knowledge and learning to good use by using your voice to help in the bigger fight for systemic change.

I’m constantly amazed that @fionagoddarduk manages to so eloquently describe the horrors or our so called “protective agencies”!!
As she says here, hers is not just one isolated case, but she has a platform and she is using this so well to raise awareness.
You honestly wouldn’t believe this could happen in the UK today. A young girl with 5 children failed horrifically as a child herself. Abused by gangs of dangerous men who she finally managed to have prosecuted, even though the trauma caused was off the scale!
Now unbelievably her brutal perpetrators bring released after a paltry sentence under this nonsense “early release scheme” while at the same time we see someone throwing a plastic bottle imprisoned for over two years!!! That’s where we begin to see that “.justice” has become a political pawn in so many ways, that horrifies the vast majority of decent people who see this happening every day!
She’s been threatened, harassed, intimidated and forced to move out of her home for her own safety and that of her young children. Where will they go? I honestly don’t know!
Placed in a totally unsuitable “temporary” accommodation close to where much of her abuse happened, bring pushed from pillar to post, the anxiety and stress caused is just inhumane! Wrong on all levels. And yet the help from our “state” institutions is completely inadequate. The priorities they have totally out of line with helping those in need who have already been hugely failed.
How can this be?
I could say so much more but listen to Fiona speak for herself and make up your own minds….
And thankyou for mentioning @TMOFCharity for those who may need support. Even if we don’t have all the answers we will always help where we can and continue to share the horrors that survivors still endure TODAY!
Shocking…. 😡😡😡
WHO SILENCED DR DAVID KELLY
Most people scrolling past this have never heard the name Dr David Kelly. They should.
He was one of the world's leading weapons inspectors, a quiet Ministry of Defence scientist who spent years checking Iraq's chemical and biological arsenal for the United Nations. Nobody understood that file better than he did.
In 2003 Tony Blair's (@InstituteGC) government published a dossier claiming Saddam Hussein could deploy chemical weapons within 45 minutes. That one line helped justify sending Britain to war, a war that ended up killing hundreds of thousands of people.
Kelly knew the intelligence behind that claim had been stretched. He said so privately, off the record, to BBC (@BBCNews) journalist Andrew Gilligan (@mragilligan). Nothing more than a conversation.
Somebody in government made sure his name reached the press anyway. Within days a respected scientist with decades of service was dragged in front of 2 parliamentary committees and questioned like a suspect on live television. His wife later said he came home a broken man.
On 17 July 2003 he left his house in Oxfordshire for a walk. He was 59. He never came home. His body was found the next morning in nearby woodland, a knife beside him and a shallow cut to his wrist.
Now here is where the story stops making sense.
Instead of letting the standard coroner's inquest run its course, Tony Blair's government suspended it before it properly began and replaced it with a private inquiry led by a judge the government appointed, Lord Hutton.
It was never resumed.
To this day Dr David Kelly is the only person in England and Wales in living memory to die in unexplained circumstances without a full coroner's inquest ever taking place.
Hutton concluded suicide within months. Officially, that was that.
Unofficially, a group of senior doctors reviewed the medical evidence and said the conclusion was unsafe. In letters to The Times (@thetimes) and The Guardian (@guardian) they explained that the artery involved is so small that cutting it rarely causes fatal blood loss in a healthy person, that the painkiller level found in his body was well under a lethal dose, and that the amount of blood at the scene was too small to account for the death recorded.
In 2011 those doctors formally asked the government to finally allow a proper inquest. Attorney General Dominic Grieve (@dominicgrieve_) reviewed it and refused. Hutton's inquiry was declared sufficient. The matter was closed, again, by the people who opened it.
Think about what actually happened here. A civil servant quietly raised concerns about the most consequential political deception in modern British history. He was exposed, humiliated and found dead days later, and the same government that needed answers made sure a proper, independent investigation never happened.
Tony Blair went on to become a Middle East peace envoy. He was later knighted.
Dr David Kelly got a rushed private inquiry, a sealed post mortem report kept from public view for years, and a grave that campaigners are still fighting over more than 2 decades on.
Nobody has ever been held accountable. Not for the dossier, not for the leak, not for what happened next.
This story deserves to be told every single year, not forgotten. If you think that too, share it.

One thing united everyone in the assisted dying debate – the need to address the appalling underfunding of palliative and social care which inflicts so much avoidable suffering on people with terminal illnesses.
I’ve written this open letter to @andyburnham because every single day at work, I see how much more dignity, comfort, meaning and joy we could enable patients to experience at the end of their life, if only palliative and oscial care weren’t so appallingly underfunded.
I know it is unlikely you will ever see or read this letter, Mr Burnham. But I had to write it anyway.
Because a good death – with as little suffering and loss of dignity as possible – should surely be a basic human right for us all?
The underfunding of palliative care is denying too many people that right.
For far too long, dying people have simply not been a government priority.
You have the power to change that.
As a specialist in palliative medicine, I can only hope and beg you to do so.
Rape is not a misunderstanding.
It is not a blurred line. It is not “mixed signals.” It is not an encounter that becomes acceptable because someone chooses to interpret silence, fear, freezing, or vulnerability as permission.
My body was not an invitation.
I did not consent to being penetrated. I did not freely choose what happened to me. My boundaries were crossed, and something that belonged entirely to me, my bodily autonomy, was taken away without my consent.
For a long time, I struggled with the weight of putting those words into the world.
But naming what happened does not make me dramatic. Speaking about it does not make me attention-seeking. Telling the truth does not create the violence.
The violence happened.
And I am allowed to tell the truth about it.
I am also allowed to exist beyond it.
I am more than what someone did to my body. More than the fear, the flashbacks, the silence, the questions, and the moments when my nervous system could only survive by shutting down.
My body belongs to me.
My voice belongs to me.
My story belongs to me.
And reclaiming those things is part of my healing.
#Consent is not complicated: my body requires my willing participation. No one is entitled to access another person's body.
Survivors should not have to become perfectly articulate, perfectly calm, perfectly certain, or perfectly “okay” to deserve dignity and support.
Sometimes survival looks like speaking.
Sometimes it looks like silence.
Sometimes it looks like shutting down and finding your way back to yourself.
But none of those things erase the truth:
I deserved to be safe.
I deserved to be heard.
I deserved to have my boundaries respected.
And what happened to me was not my fault.
I am not reclaiming my story because what happened was small.
I am reclaiming it because I am still here.

I very rarely ask for anything. And I never ask for anything for myself. I have always trusted that those who believe in the gruelling work my team and I are doing @TMOFCharity at The Maggie Oliver Foundation helping victims and survivors of sexual abuse will donate to help us grow and evolve if they are able.
However, this is very different! I’ve never done this before but I am asking if there is anyone out there who can help this very brave and eleoquent survivor @fionagoddarduk.
Fiona has had to move from her home for safety reasons following the abhorrent release of her vile rapists under this abomination that is the early release of predatory paedophiles, murderers and child rapists. She has been threatened and lives in real fear of repercussions, and her young children are inevitably hugely affected by this too.
She has 5 young children all under the age of 12, and in just 3 weeks since fleeing her house in fear they have already been moved 3 times through totally unsuitable temporary accommodations as the authorities say they can’t find her and her children a permanent place to settle.
Can anyone help? Her young children deserve a safe and secure home, some stability, to settle in new schools and have some semblance of normality in a life that has been constantly rocked by the experiences their mum has endured, and yet she still fights on to expose the horrors of our broken systems.
This could be an opportunity to break the cycle, but as everyone knows our public services are on their knees and houses IMO are going to the wrong people, and when there’s a real need of help, this just isn’t forthcoming!
We are trying our best to find her somewhere, but the more hands there are to the pump the better chance there is of succeeding.
Fiona is willing to consider a move anywhere. Council house, private rental, anywhere in the Uk . For all those who may be in a position to help, feel free to contact either me in a DM or Fiona on X too.
Fingers and toes all crossed that someone can help, and that this little family who have suffered so much can finally look ahead to a brighter future after a lifetime of trauma and being failed.
Thankyou 🙏
Sexually abused children take on a whole new personality to survive. They wear a mask to hide the pain of who they really are.The only time they take off the mask is when they are with people they feel safe around and trust.Let’s make Scotland a mask free country for all our children.

Absolutely horrific as a paedophile has pleaded guilty to 49 child sex offences after grooming girls with vapes and trainers and inciting a child into sexual exploitation.
Police uncovered extensive offending after being alerted to concerning information by a hero safeguarding officer at a school in Swindon in May 2023.
Mark South, 38, a Jamaican national from Ashford, Kent, had been due to stand trial but issued a guilty plea in court on Tuesday.
The "large and complex investigation" by Wiltshire Police's Major Crime Investigation Team found South had used several social media platforms to contact young girls and arrange sexual encounters in exchange for money and other items, including vapes and trainers.
Over a number of years, he used a complex network of social media aliases, burner phones and prepaid numbers to groom, manipulate and blackmail children into sexual exploitation across the country, said Detective Constable Geoff Newnham, who led the investigation.
South's offences included engaging in sexual activity with a child, taking and distributing indecent images of children, blackmail, engaging in sexual communication with a child, inciting a child into sexual exploitation, and causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.
DC Newnham said South "crossed county boundaries to commit some of the most serious offences imaginable against vulnerable children, emboldened by what he believed was the anonymity of the internet".
He said: "We must not underestimate the profound and lasting harm his offending has caused to children and their families. It is thanks to the extraordinary courage of the victims that justice has been achieved.
"I am particularly pleased that they will not now have to relive their traumatic experiences by giving evidence at trial following South's last minute guilty pleas."
South will be sentenced on December 14-15.

To put it simply: rape is a serious violation of a person's bodily autonomy and sexual consent. It occurs when sexual penetration happens without the person's freely given and willing consent, including when a penis is forcibly inserted into a person's vagina against their will.
I never consented to having my vagina penetrated or violated. I did not freely agree to what happened to my body. My boundaries were crossed, and my bodily autonomy was taken away from me.
What happened was not a misunderstanding, a trivial encounter, or something that should be minimized. It was a profound violation of my consent, my body, and my right to feel safe within it.
Consent matters. Every person has the right to decide what happens to their own body, and the absence of consent must be taken seriously. Speaking openly about sexual violence is not about seeking attention or creating conflict; it is about naming what happened, challenging the normalization of abuse, and affirming that survivors deserve to be believed, supported, and treated with dignity.
I am reclaiming my voice by telling the truth about what happened to me. My body was mine then, and it is mine now. What was done to me does not define my worth, my identity, or my future.
