But you have shut off replies…..which means you aren’t interested in any responses…..Are you going to Bluesky? What have you done to clean up the biased platforms? Pretty sure it is not a lot!
I've decided to leave this platform and my Department will too.
A platform originally designed for free speech and expression now favours abuse and misinformation over meaningful debate.
It isn't healthy for our democracy or our communities and I don’t want to support it.
@lukejcr Who will be paying for the No 10 of the north? Huge costs & expenses that this country can ill afford or needs. Total waste of money. Will the MPs /civil servants pay their own travelling & accommodation costs when needed in the north?
@NDIronsMP Well you have kept replies open….which is a plus. Perhaps you could clarify why so many MPs think that AB is the one when KS wasn’t? Especially as he has already completed 70% of the manifesto pledges. The members need to have a choice not just the PLP no democracy otherwise.
@SarahChampionMP No thanks to a AB as PM….not interested unless there is a proper contest with at least a couple of decent challengers. The membership needs to have a say in the Labour leader otherwise it isn’t democratic. Start reading the room the hardworking membership is not happy.
We need a proper contest….not a coronation. You need to check out how the membership feels about A B…….oh dear maybe it won’t be as you hope.. no wonder you aren’t keen for a contest.
As a Party, we owe Keir Starmer a huge amount. He made us electable again, and led us to a landslide election win only two years ago. He has overseen important achievements since then.
I have seen up close a man who loves his country, with a deep sense of public service and duty. That character has re-set our standing on the world stage.
He has announced his resignation with dignity, putting the country’s interest first. I thank Keir for all that he has done for our Party and country.
We must now come together as a Party, choose a new leader, and show the country that we can do orderly transition well. That requires us to all behave with respect and humility, and show the best of ourselves.
We have to show that mainstream progressive politics can change people’s lives for the better, and is up to the task of the challenges we all face. If we fail the consequences for democracy and the country are great and dangerous.
The NEC will shortly set out the process.
If these reports are accurate, they reinforce what I have been thinking for some time.
Sir Keir Starmer appeared to have a long term strategy for the country. Whether people agreed with every aspect of it is another matter, but it was recognisably a national strategy. It sought to rebuild Britain's economy, strengthen our international relationships, move progressively closer to Europe and govern from the centre for the benefit of the entire United Kingdom. He had until 2029 to pursue that programme under the mandate the electorate had given him.
By contrast, I have yet to hear Andy Burnham articulate a comparable national vision. What I hear are regional priorities, political soundbites and briefings from unnamed allies. If those briefings are an accurate reflection of his thinking, they suggest a politics that remains rooted in Greater Manchester rather than one that speaks for the whole nation.
A Prime Minister cannot govern simply for the North, any more than they can govern simply for the South. They must govern for every citizen who contributes to this country's success. The people who create wealth, pay taxes and build businesses live in every region of Britain. They deserve a Government whose first instinct is to grow the national economy, not to divide it into competing regions.
Nor do I believe the old political labels carry much meaning today. The so called working class is no longer a single political bloc. Britain is a nation of working people in every profession and every income bracket, all striving to build a better future for themselves and their families. The old idea of a permanent Red Wall belongs to another political era.
That is why I remain unconvinced. A Mayor can afford to think regionally. A Prime Minister cannot. The office demands a vision for the whole country, and that is the vision I am still waiting to hear.
Totally agree with your thoughts re the crowning of AB…..I predict he may well last less than KS……building a leadership on flimsy foundations is never a good idea.
@twotate2@IanByrneMP That's exactly the reason they are hoping for a coronation... they don't want him starting off fatally weakened with less than (lets say) an 80% majority. If (as I think) he actually lost versus any random challenger, or even failed to win convincingly, it would be fatal damage
@IanByrneMP No you aren’t listening to your hard working members, we need and want a contest, otherwise the crowning of Burnham is nothing more than a coup. Or maybe you need to ask the members if they want AB as their leader with no challengers. Pretty sure I know the result-it would be NO.
@wesstreeting You of all people have no right to comment on what the PM does or doesn’t do…..& I certainly don’t agree with your thoughts re the Home Secretary.
@LucyJMcDaid Well how many of this cabinet have breached collective responsibility by the treatment of the current PM? I sincerely hope that the current HS is reduced to being just an MP shortly.
