@KaitlinGoltz It's been a great book study and I really enjoyed the book! Thank you for facilitating a wonderful chat! Have a great night too! #fhsdlearns
@KaitlinGoltz A4. I've started giving the kids more individual attention when I can throughout the session, showing genuine interest in their lives, and actively listening if they have an issue (even if I can't "fix" it). Sometimes they just need to vent or tell a really long story #FHSDlearns
@KaitlinGoltz A3. In one instance, a child in my group likes to walk around while I'm explaining the activity. I used to continue reminding him to sit while I'm talking, but then I realized he isn't distracting the others (especially like when he's sitting in the group). (contd...) #FHSDlearns
@KaitlinGoltz Exactly! Plus with that stress comes burn out. If teachers leave from burning out, then Billy has to go through more changes and can't build a supportive relationship with someone. #fhsdlearns
@KaitlinGoltz A2. I've noticed if I don't take care of myself, I start taking on the emotional stress of "Billy". One of my favorite sayings (from a FB photo) is, You can't pour from an empty cup. If I'm empty, how will I be able to build up these kids? #FHSDlearns
A1. In the morning, I've worked on taking a breath before reacting and more listening instead of just telling. I'm not anywhere close to 100% yet, but I definitely see a difference: the kids seem to show more trust, and I get less stressed. #FHSDlearns https://t.co/xdYc0flgiL
@KaitlinGoltz A5: The "pockets of brilliance" stuck out to me. So many times, these children have to grow up faster than their peers for survival.

@KaitlinGoltz A4: I'm focusing on being more intentional with my group as a whole, but more so as individuals. I'm also trying to remind myself there's more behind these challenging behaviors & most of the time, it's nothing personal towards me. One more, less "traditional" resp. to behaviors.
@KaitlinGoltz A3: I learned about the plasticity of the brain. It's so encouraging to know that with the right tools and support, "Billys" can increase their windows of stress tolerance. Children can be resilient! #fhsdlearns
@KaitlinGoltz A2: I feel more compassionate towards Billy because it makes me realize how much of his behaviors aren't really his control. This also makes brings to mind a few children I've worked with before I had this information. #fhsdlearns
