When people talk about what’s missing from R&B, yearning is near the top of the list. The vulnerability, the pleading, putting your entire heart into the lyrics…is now rare.
For Day 5 of the #BlackMusicMonthChallenge, share a song (or songs) that define “yearning.”
@bomani_jones I’ve admired Mike since the His and Hers podcast days. He has always been solid in my book and spoke of his wife from time to time so it’s tough to see him experiencing this loss. 🙏🏾
@IvanAvinaSanch1@SouthwestAir I am not A-List, but I have decided to switch to Delta for my preferred airline for the reasons you stated. Most of my travel is international these days so it makes sense for the perks they offer
@TiricoHairline@KevOnStage I have a two-fer. Learned my Great Aunt’s actual name was Sarah not Josephine on her obituary and her son’s actual name. When I told him he said he didn’t know either until his first day of school. He had to walk home and have his mom write it down so he could remember it. 😂
Just wrapped a client meeting.
70.
Widowed.
Still working part time because she likes it... not out of necessity.
No debt.
Liquid portfolio about $2m and Social Security about $40k/yr.
Plenty of money for her comfortable retirement.
What started out as a tax strategy meeting (primarily about converting some of her substantial pre-tax assets to Roth before RMDs start in 3 years) quickly evolved into a 'lifestyle' meeting.
We talked about travel and how she wants to spend her time.
When she told me about the trip she just got back from, I could hear a pinch of guilt when she mentioned she'd flown first class.
Here's what I told her:
"You and I have worked together for 9 years. By now I know your heirs and how they're on stable financial footing.
So I want you to think of things this way:
Someone is going to be flying first class with your money. Do you want it to be you or your beneficiaries?
Go live the life you want to. If the distribution needs from the portfolio rise to a level I'm concerned with, I'll let you know and we can adjust accordingly."
In this case, she's not paying for comfort at the expense of her kids or grandkids being able to afford necessities.
... And all of those years deferring gratification (flying coach) are what lay the foundation for flying first class down the road.
Spend the money if you can, my people.
