Trunk or Treat started at St. Paul UMC Port Arthur years ago. Youth leader Jennifer Gunner explained that after the pandemic, the event restarted to lower attendance. “We realized we weren’t getting a good turnout at the church,” she said.

Churches in the Texas Annual Conference are decking out their cars with decor for Trunk-or-Treat celebrations. Congregations are transforming parking lots for the fall festivity, where costumed children visit decorated parked vehicles for candy, instead of going door-to-door.
Now that the summer heat has begun to fade, churches in the Texas Annual Conference are celebrating the changing seasons. Here are some ways that congregations are hosting fall festivals, promising fellowship, and old-fashioned family fun.

The population in the U.S. is aging – and churches are no different. Here are a few examples of congregations in the Texas Annual Conference that are finding new ways to tailor programs for seniors, and support and empower older members. #umc#txumc

For 150 years, FUMC Orange has served as a community hub. After the pandemic, Pastor Lani Rousseau wanted to remind all that the church was still there – and still dedicated to providing a space to gather and support one another. #umc#txumc

Norris Chapel UMC closed its doors in September 2022 when mold was discovered in the church. The congregation returned this Mother’s Day. Members gathered in the fellowship hall, then marched into the sanctuary singing, “We’ve come this far by faith.” https://t.co/XMylvNHC5k
St. Luke’s is now in the process of constructing a new home for its woodworkers. In August, the church broke ground at 2614 Edloe Street.
Plans for the 3,370 square-foot building include both indoor and outdoor workspaces, as well as room for an office and meetings. #umc#txumc
The word “ministry” might not conjure up the sound of buzzing saws or the smell of sawdust – unless, that is, you are a member of St. Luke’s UMC in Houston. The congregation’s Woodshop Ministry has been making toys and repairing furniture for decades.

As chief storyteller and strategic messenger of the mission, Mills will provide leadership in establishing and amplifying the narrative of The United Methodist witness throughout the Texas Conference. #umc#txumc
Bishop Cynthia Fierro Harvey has named Brant Mills as the Director of Communications of the Texas Annual Conference of The UMC effective 10/1/23. Mills is no stranger to the Texas Conference having served from 2006 to 2020 as web content manager and associate director of media.
“His knowledge of the Conference and his commitment to The United Methodist Church make him the perfect leader of this important ministry,” said Bishop Harvey.
The Texas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church is honored to have Rev. Elizabeth Duffin serving in our conference as District Superintendent of the Southwest/Central North Districts. Thank you to Robert Besser and Beatrice Gonzales Garza for the photos!

Adopt an Aggie is making a comeback. The long-standing tradition of @AggieUMC families providing support to college students went on hold during COVID-19. Now it’s back after a three-year hiatus – and better than ever. #umc#txumc
