I hear you, I guess that perspective of mine comes back to mostly living in blue states all my life. Like even in the rural area that I live in (it’s very much Trump country) there still seems to be some support for minimum safety nets, there is just a lot of concern about people exploiting safety nets (so they basically don’t trust the government to vet people enough to make sure they are really in need). But yeah I probably don’t have a super accurate perspective of the whole country, part of what I do for work is provide social safety nets to the area I live in which is again super right leaning

I would agree but also push back a bit lol. A lot of the world, yes, but I would argue not the majority of the world. I’d say the U.S. is slightly more right wing than most Western countries, basically more right wing than the majority of democratic countries. When you look at the world population as a whole, the Middle East, India, China, Pakistan, Russia, etc, I think you’d find them to be far more right wing in terms of race, religious freedoms, gender norms, and so on. And frankly, though the U.S. might be more right than a lot of Western nations, a fair amount of those Western nations were influenced by the American revolution to move away from monarchy, theocracy, and authoritarianism. But yeah, I would agree that your fundamental point that the U.S. is slightly more right wing than a lot of countries with similar political systems is accurate.

It’s hard for me to believe that honestly, but I have grown up in blue states and only now live in a rural area, so I don’t have an accurate picture of the whole country at least from my experience. Now that I’m in a rural area it feels overwhelmingly right, but when I go to the city it feels overwhelmingly left. Honestly very challenging to find people who don’t dramatically swing one way or another (again, that’s in my personal experience)
