to have someone love and care about you to the point of helping you break free from the vicious cycle of self neglect is a rare type of love that should never be taken for granted
Under my presidency, all self proclaimed “boy moms” will be locked up in a re-education camp until earning their freedom through vigorous psychological testing
She lost her son, and then the state told her she had killed him, and then it put her in a cell to die for it.
Her nine-month-old son stopped breathing. She ran to a neighbour, tried CPR the way she had seen it done, and drove him to the hospital.
He died. Mississippi charged her with his murder and sentenced her to death. She was eighteen.
Sabrina Butler. The bruising on the baby's body was from her attempts to resuscitate him. The prosecution presented it as a beating.
No one told her she had the right to remain silent in any way she understood. She gave a statement trying to explain what she had done, and it was used against her.
Her trial lasted a matter of days. The jury took less than an hour. She was sent to death row at nineteen, pregnant with her second child, and gave birth in custody.
The Mississippi Supreme Court overturned the conviction in 1992.
At the retrial in 1995, medical evidence showed the child had died of a kidney condition — a documented illness, not an injury. She was acquitted in about twenty minutes.
Sabrina Butler is the first woman in the United States ever exonerated from death row. Mississippi has never compensated her.
She now speaks publicly against the death penalty. She has said the hardest part was never the cell. It was that for five years nobody would let her grieve.
Sabrina Butler’s case is the kind of buried injustice that helped inspire our Ebook, 150 Crimes Against Black America They Never Answered For—because some of our stories leave questions that still deserve answers.

@CNviolations I’ve had enough loved ones die to Covid to know it’s not a joke, just because it didn’t kill you or someone you know doesn’t take from the severity of it.
Duncan Trussell recorded this conversation with his mother while she was facing terminal cancer.
What you’re hearing isn’t scripted. It isn’t performed. It’s a son sitting with his dying mother trying to hold onto every word before the words run out.
And she, the one facing the end, is the one doing the comforting.
That is what makes these conversations so extraordinary. Not the wisdom itself, as profound as it is. But who it’s coming from. A woman who had every reason to be consumed by her own fear choosing instead to spend what little time remained helping her son understand how to live without her.
These recordings became the heart of The Midnight Gospel. And I always go back to watch it again.
They remain some of the most honest conversations about death, love and what it means to be human ever put on screen…
When I posted about the fake inspection stickers a few weeks ago, y’all said I was “nuts” & “lying”… I was not. Here ya go! And as always, fuck these people.
And we’re shocked some doctors are pushing for endometriosis to be reclassified a cancer because of the way it operates. But ya, do another study on the most attractive female body trait instead of focusing on this severely understudied illness. I’ll just sit in pain forever.

@prettydvys This is exactly why if I find out people are a delena fan I immediately dislike you. The mental gymnastics you have to do to think he’s the right one for her.
