Perhaps refusing to endorse the Democratic nominee for Mayor who has inspired new people to get into politics in the country's biggest city where you also live is a clue to the broader problem? Just one idea....
I fear too many people are drawing this conclusion.
Zohran entirely reshaped the electorate. The vast majority of his #1 voters (cross-endorsements, WFP/DREAM) also ranked other non-Cuomo candidates.
Had Mamdani not run at all, many of "his" voters don't turn out to begin with.
@stratechery The other big “philosophy” is that generative ML is recentralization/reconcentration of computing into corporate interests. MAC/iphone revolution from 80s-mid 2010s were about ever more personal computing, and democratizing compute. Dependency on massive ai servers not so much
Sharpton: Eric Adams is attacking Mamdani over reports that he identified himself as African American and Asian on a college application. Is this a real issue to you?
Jeffries: I think to me, the issue that we have to deal with in New York City, which our democratic nominee did talk about extensively during the primary campaign, is affordability.
Congratulations to @ZohranKMamdani on an incredible win and a courageous, principled campaign.
People are hungry for a government that is relentlessly focused on improving their lives, even when it means standing up to corporate power and moneyed interests.
Congrats to Zohran Mamdani. Important lessons.
Focus on shifting economic power. Relentlessly. Have big ideas on how to do it.
Be joyful and authentic. Even if your ideas aren't considered "mainstream" by elites. The elites have little idea what's actually mainstream.
@MonicaLMarks maybe it’s part of Likud’s domestic political strategy but they’ve effectly made any criticism of themselves and their policies “anti-semitism”, but then they alienate themselves from the rest of the liberal/progressive voting block.
If Zohran Mamdani becomes NYC mayor at the age of 33 it will be a death blow to millions of young south Asian men in this country.
Every desi parent is gonna be like, “Zohran was Mayor of New York City at 33! You haven’t even bought a house yet! Why can’t you be more like him?!?”
Ohhhh dark days ahead for south Asian men. Smh.
Worth noting: Zohran Mamdami did this without the support of the two most powerful Democrats in Congress, Chuck Schumer & Hakeem Jeffries. Zohran campaigned aggressively, took risks, and went *everywhere.* A massive win. This is political history & it’s amazing.
It has just occurred to me that I give talks and curate walking tours on NYC’s Muslim histories and communities and that … I will need to make a significant update to my material LOL
@mccaffreyr3 It’s not too farfetched, Netanyahu has a warrant out with ICC for war crimes and he’s also in legal hot water at home for corruption…and he’s launching random military strikes basically to get re-elected and avoid facing the music.
