The New York Times breaks the story that in March 2000, a group of Austrian art students called “Gelitin” secretly installed a balcony on the 91st floor of the North Tower of the World Trade Center.
They photographed the balcony by helicopter, and then dismantled it.
The ease by which the students were able to make structural changes to the building without anyone noticing brings into question the security measures at the WTC.

Photographed in 1996, a very different Union Station than you see today. At the time, the building stood abandoned, in disrepair, and under threat of demolition.
Later that year, voters in Jackson, Clay, and Platte counties in Missouri and Johnson County in Kansas approved a one-eighth-cent bi-state sales tax to restore and redevelop Union Station and create a science museum. The tax raised $118 million toward the total $250 million project. Its passage is believed to have been the first of its kind in the history of the United States.
Thanks to the historic bi-state tax and substantial donor support, Union Station was saved from demolition and restored to its former glory, reopening to the public on November 10, 1999.
